Attachment-based Therapists in Cooksville, MD
It's in the past, so why can't I get over it? Am I broken or just doing this to myself? Who even am I now? There's so much suffering in the world, what difference do I make? If you lie awake at night with these racing thoughts, a pit in your stomach, and pressure in your chest, reach out.
Life is messy, so bring your full, messy self to therapy. We'll laugh, swear, rage at injustice, and mourn loss together. We'll figure out what's actually behind the humor, intellectualizing, people pleasing, defensiveness, and the things you're ashamed of doing.

Being human comes with its challenges! Our brains and the thoughts they generate don't come with an instruction manual, making it tough to navigate. Often, our lack of understanding about what's going on within us creates the suffering we seek to escape.

I am more interested in what you are experiencing than anything I could tell you about myself. Generally, individuals come to therapy because they have reached a personal impasse and would like an outside perspective.

After 34 years as a Licensed
Clinical Social Worker, I have decided not to renew the license and to continue working as a Relationship Coach.
What's wrong with this relationship? The same problems keep on repeating time after time. So what does a study of psychology reveal? A well-trained and experienced psychotherapist can help to shine a light into the dark unconscious places which shroud the mysteries. This helps to bring the issues into consciousness, and once there, allows you to work with them. This work involves change. There may be many underlying issues which will become the work as they become apparent.

If there were ever a time when reaching out and asking for help, I believe it is now. Togetherr we can make a plan to live our best possible lives, keep hope in our hearts, connect with our loved ones, adapting and adjusting to the many transitions life presents us. We can listen to our gut, honor our stories, honor the stories and feelings of others. And most important of all keep hope alive. The first step is to know that we can't do it all by ourselves.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
