We will focus on CBT, ACT, and mindfulness with a person-centered framework.
Moving through life we collect stressors, unhealthy or poor coping skills, negative thoughts, traumas and more. Collecting these experiences may lead you to feel lost, unprepared, and overwhelmed. However they manifest, realigning with yourself and working through these life experiences can be a journey that we take together. We will work together to address your needs and goals in a non-judgmental, safe environment where you can better understand yourself and find progress forward.

All of us go through struggles and challenges in life but we don’t have to let them define who we are as individuals. I am privileged to be able to hear the stories of couples and individuals who have had their share of challenges. Being an excellent active listener will be an essential role I will play on our journey of mindfulness , self-care, and the expression of feelings. My most important goal for my clients is to provide a safe judgment free space to work through those difficult challenges while encouraging growth.

Adopting a practice of mindfulness together, we raise levels of awareness to be able to stop before reacting and engage with each other in ways that are meaning-filled to you, even in conflict.
Therapy is a truly collaborative effort for healing. You are the expert and the therapist is simply a conduit. I’m committed to helping people learn how to live by their values instead of letting emotions and intrusive thoughts control their lives. My work focuses on targeting ineffective behaviors, habits and beliefs and transforming them into effective ways of living by providing empathy, authenticity, and acceptance while challenging current solutions to the problem. I will never ask the person sitting across from me to do something I myself have not done. Meaning, I live my life by C-DBT and don't just use it as an intervention.

I frequently use cognitive, systems theory, and mindfulness approaches, but experience--along with humor and compassion--have helped me integrate these into a comfortable conversational format.
I emphasize a collaborative approach to therapy--I bring 24 years of clinical experience, as well as enthusiasm, hope, and a dose of humor, and ask only that you bring an openness to change. Together, we identify specific life goals and generate plans to achieve them. Ultimately, you will come to understand that you make perfect sense; you may just not have been able to use this self-awareness to make the most productive decisions. My strong suit is quickly identifying underlying problems and patterns, as well as personal strengths and resources, and from there we chart your personal path.

We will work together utilizing narrative therapy, CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, trauma focused therapy or mindfulness practices to unlock your full potential.
The journey you are on is far greater than the season you are walking through. Adjusting to life in a post pandemic world has left many learning to cope with the unknown; unknown stress, unknown career paths, unknown relationships, unknown trauma, unknown sense of self. Sometimes these unknowns cause increased anxiety, depressive states, low self esteem, stress in relationships and loss of direction. You are capable of embracing your unknowns to build your new life, even if it appears to be far different than you planned. You have the power. We just need to grow it.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
