Welcome! I'm Joanna, a Clinical Social Worker/Mental Health Therapist. I work with adolescents (16+) & adults, most frequently young adults. I particularly enjoy working with transitional issues - changes in school, jobs, family, relationships, identity, etc. Whether you're feeling stagnant and are craving novelty or are overwhelmed with change, I'm here to help. Often, my clients are dealing with depression, anxiety, substance use, trauma, and/or interpersonal conflict. I work with folks with a range of backgrounds, faiths, genders, sexualities, and lifestyles. My ideal client is open minded, patient, and motivated for change.

Now taking teletherapy clients! Over the past 10 years, I have worked with a diverse population of children, families, and young adults in inpatient, outpatient and school settings. Clients with learning disabilities, trauma, anxiety/depression and ADHD symptoms are some of the many clients I have served in the past. My therapy style focuses on being thorough, client-centered, and efficient through the use of eclectic, evidence based therapy methods. I assist with achieving my client's self created goals with the use of parenting tips and techniques for children, and a diverse set of coping mechanisms for teenage and adult clients.

I am direct and straightforward, while also being respectful and encouraging in guiding clients in identifying and utilizing their strengths to move forward toward their targets. My background includes 10+ years providing community mental health services for adults with severe mental illness and substance abuse. I also worked in Howard County Public Schools for many years providing crisis intervention to students. Following my undergraduate studies in Psychology and Music at St. Mary's College of Maryland, I earned a Masters in Social Work with a specialty in Clinical Mental Health from the University of Maryland.

I use a variety of techniques to match the needs of each client throughout each session. I primarily use DBT, ACT, and IFS therapeutic modalities. These techniques emphasize mindfulness, personal strengths, resilience, and choice. Additionally, I use compassion and explore my clients’ values to gently challenge them to find more effective ways of getting their needs met. At times I use Improv, humor, and a conversational and dynamic therapeutic style to create a judgment-free, supportive, and safe environment; disarming the self-critic; and allowing my clients to express themselves freely.

My name is Matthew Stevens and I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C). I have over ten years of experience as a mental health therapist, both in an outpatient clinic and an acute care inpatient setting. Being a therapist in two extremely different settings provided me the opportunity acquire and hone my clinical skills with adults seeking treatment for a variety of challenges and issues These include depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationship concerns, mood disorders, and life transitions, among others.

As a nationally recognized expert in Teen Mental Health and Teen/Family related issues, I have spent my career working, training, speaking, and providing consultation and therapy in a variety of settings. I am the Owner and Compliance Officer at MPB Group Inc - an outpatient mental health clinic in Columbia and Laurel, MD.
