You feel like your emotions have taken over your life. Whether it's due to a traumatic event, unrelenting anxiety, or day-to-day stress, you just can't seem to "pull it together." It feels like your life is getting smaller and less fulfilling by the day. You have tried so many things to make yourself feel better and more in control, but these are only temporary fixes. You may have even tried therapy before and found that it helped to vent your feelings - but that the relief didn't last for very long. You are ready to make some real changes in your life, but you don't know how or where to begin.

You may appear high-functioning on the outside but are desperate on the inside. Maybe you’re carrying trauma, stuck in painful relationship cycles, or battling anxiety, grief, or a deep sense of disconnection. You want clarity, peace, and healing—but more than anything, you want to feel like yourself again. You’re ready to understand the “why” behind your struggles, not just talk about the latest crisis. You’re looking for something deeper—a space to be real, to be safe, and to begin to untangle what’s been holding you back.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Maryland who works primarily with teens and adults, and am dedicated to helping people build lives of meaning, connection, and agency.
Too often, our lives get derailed by painful experiences that leave us feeling aimless, hopeless, disconnected and/or stuck. And we try to cope with the painful aftermath in the best way we know how—perhaps we keep busy, try to achieve, try to think our way through, or use methods to distract, punish ourselves or numb out. While these may offer some short-term relief, we find we have to organize more of our lives around something that feels inescapable.

Does depression, anxiety or chronic pain prevent you from engaging in therapy? Would you be best served by a therapist who can meet primarily by video or even simply voice calls? When hard-to-solve challenges start to get in the way of expectations for work and personal relationships, it can be difficult to determine what steps need to be taken to improve the situation. It is easy to lose hope when solutions offered by family and friends are unsuccessful. It is easier to make positive changes and move forward with the help of an experienced, professional, objective confidant. Hope is here, let's talk through your challenges.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists
Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.
Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.
How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.
What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
