Are intimacy challenges holding you back from the deep connections you deserve? Whether it's in your relationship with yourself, your partner, or your family, emotional wounds can quietly erode intimacy, leaving you feeling disconnected or unfulfilled. These challenges are often normalized, but healing is possible!

I blend clinical depth with mindfulness, somatic awareness, and hypnotherapy to move past surface-level coping.
Something cracked your life open. Maybe a divorce you didn't see coming, or the realization that you've built a successful life that doesn't feel like yours. The strategies that used to work have quietly stopped working. You're not falling apart. You're at a threshold. I work with men navigating divorce, identity disruption, and the gap between achievement and inner truth. With 20+ years of experience and my own walk through these transitions, I offer something deeper than coping strategies. We find what's actually generating the pain and we shift it.

I help committed couples facing infidelity, betrayal, or a relationship crisis who aren't ready to give up, who despite uncertainty want to choose a loving, trusting, authentic relationship if possible. I'll help you find the path forward. Together we'll create emotional safety, rebuild trust through genuine accountability, & regulate overwhelming emotions. While healing is strongest when both partners are engaged, I've seen meaningful change begin even when just one partner chooses a different path. My approach integrates relationship science, nervous system regulation, and mind-body healing in a compassionate, structured process.

Whether you just heard, "I love you, but I'm not in love with you," are trying to rebuild trust after an affair, need to replace distance with closeness, need to forgive (or be forgiven), or are trying to avoid separation or stop a divorce -- Dr. Shane employs Gottman Institute's research based methods to help couples develop the skills needed to hear (and be heard), resolve conflicts in a "win/win' vs a "win/lose" fashion, and speak each other's "love language" so that you can try and make peace with the past and get past the hurt.

I often use Hypnotherapy in my practice as it helps improve anxiety, depression, physical issues like chronic pain and GI problems, changing old unwanted habits, as well as recovering from traumatic life events.
People come to therapy carrying quiet burdens—anxiety that won’t settle, relationships that feel stuck, or moments from the past that continue to echo in the present. Healing happens when we feel safe enough to slow down, listen inward, and discover the parts of ourselves we’ve been trying to manage alone. My work is to sit with you in those places, gently and without judgment, to help find a way back to steadiness, clarity, and connection.

I draw on IFS/parts work, eye movement & hypnotherapy skills for when emotion runs the room.
It's 2am. You're replaying a conversation from last Tuesday, the one where you said yes when your whole body meant no. Again. You scan every exchange for what you did wrong, what made them pull away, what made them harder to please. For years, people close to you have called you "too sensitive," "too needy," "too much." So you got quieter. Smaller. You over-accommodate, then rehearse apologies for things that weren't yours to carry. And somewhere underneath, a thought keeps surfacing: was it really that bad? Maybe I overreacted? Something has to change.

HypnoTherapy
How does hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy works by using guided hypnosis to help you reach a state of focus and concentration through mental imagery and soothing verbal repetition. The state is somewhat like being absorbed in a book, a movie, or your own thoughts. You are not under a therapist’s “control,” but they can help you relax and turn your attention inward to discover the resources to achieve behavior change or better manage psychological concerns. Therapy sessions may involve guiding you through recognizing a problem, releasing problematic thoughts about it, and considering and accepting more productive alternatives before returning to normal awareness. Hypnotherapy is typically used by a therapist along with traditional forms of talk therapy. Eventually, your therapist can help you learn hypnotherapy techniques yourself so you can establish a stronger sense of control on your own in stressful or challenging moments.

Is hypnotherapy the same as hypnosis?
Hypnotherapy, which is sometimes called hypnotic suggestion, is a therapeutic technique in which a therapist uses hypnosis to help patients. It is not the kind of hypnosis portrayed in stage shows, or in movies or on television. You will not be unconscious or asleep during hypnotherapy, you will not lose control of yourself, your thoughts, or your free will, and you will be able to fully recall your experience. And while you will hear your therapist’s suggestions, it is always up to you to decide whether to act on them. Hypnosis by a trained mental-health professional is not a form of mind control, which is impossible to achieve anyway.

Can everyone be hypnotized?
The most common challenge of hypnotherapy is that as many as one in four people cannot be hypnotized. Brain imaging has confirmed differences in patterns of brain connectivity between those who respond to hypnotism and those who do not. Other people who could potentially be hypnotized may not respond to the technique because of their skepticism or resistance to entering a hypnotic state. If a therapist’s “post-hypnotic suggestion” is effective, it’s because they are suggesting something you want to achieve.

Does hypnotherapy work?
Through hypnotherapy, you can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. Like other talk therapy techniques, when hypnotherapy succeeds, it’s a case of mind over matter. Effective hypnotherapy involves self-healing because you access resources you need to change inside of yourself and learn how to tap into them whenever you need. Hypnotherapy has been shown to be an effective therapy for anxiety, phobias, stress, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, sexual dysfunction, and undesirable behaviors like smoking. It can be used to help improve sleep or to address relationship challenges, and to aid with pain management, digestive disorders, skin conditions, and the gastrointestinal side effects of pregnancy or chemotherapy.
