Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists in Catonsville, MD
Many of the clients I work present as high-functioning on the outside while internally struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, intrusive thoughts, overwhelm, body image distress, or a complicated relationship with food. I work with adolescents and adults navigating eating disorders, OCD, anxiety, and major life transitions- including pregnancy, postpartum adjustment, and motherhood.
My clients are often thoughtful, driven, and deeply caring people who are used to putting pressure on themselves to "do it all". They may feel stuck in cycles of overthinking, control, self-criticism, or emotional exhaustion.

I am passionate about resilience therapy and coaching. Resilience is an individual's ability to 'bounce back', stay strong, or use effective solutions to handle life's challenges, changes, or demands. Utilizing these resilience skills can help when facing a range of problems, from everyday stress to significant life crises. There are many stressors that can lead to low levels of resilience. If you don't learn how to cope with your stressors, this can impact your well-being and focus. I will provide you with practical tools and techniques to help you identify your stressors and build your resilience.

Clients choose me as a therapist because they want to overcome feelings of anxiety and shame, build confidence and self-compassion, feel more comfortable with themselves, and function more effectively. After working with me, clients have a toolbox of strategies to cope with urges and behaviors they want to change; understand more about themselves, their emotions, and their behaviors; are able to do things they used to avoid; and can reclaim their time and mental energy from body-focused repetitive behaviors, anxiety, and OCD.

Many people come to therapy carrying quiet burdens—anxiety that won’t settle, relationships that feel stuck, or moments from the past that continue to echo in the present. Healing happens when we feel safe enough to slow down, listen inward, and discover the parts of ourselves we’ve been trying to manage alone. My work is to sit with you in those places, gently and without judgment, to help find a way back to steadiness, clarity, and connection.

You’ve survived things that never should have happened, and you’re tired of pretending they didn’t change you. Many of the adults I work with learned how to survive childhood trauma, sexual or domestic violence, and grief, but survival isn’t the same as truly living. I provide virtual trauma-informed therapy to adults across Maryland who feel stuck in patterns of emotional numbing, hyper-independence, or constant vigilance and are ready to move beyond survival mode.

You may look fine on the outside, but inside something feels off.
You've gotten really good at pushing through, staying busy, and holding it all together. Most people probably wouldn't guess how much you're carrying. But when things get quiet, you find yourself wondering why you still feel stuck, disconnected, or unsure of where your life is headed.
You've likely spent a lot of time trying to figure it out on your own. You've thought about it, analyzed it, talked it through, and searched for answers. Yet something still feels unresolved.

Hi! I’m Victoria! I believe therapy works best when clients feel met where they are and supported at a pace that feels right for them. In our work together, we move step by step, practicing and exploring things together in session so clients feel more prepared and confident as they continue that work between sessions. Rather than focusing on fixing or forcing change, I work with clients to understand their patterns and develop ways of functioning that honor who they are, especially for those who have spent much of their lives trying to adapt to systems that were never designed for how their brains work.

If you’re like many of my clients, you are looking for an expert in neuropsychological evaluations, or you’ve found me while searching for a therapist specialized in neurodivergent, LGBQIA+, or transgender affirming care. You need help coping with stress, anxiety/mood, school, or behavior problems, or you may want therapy to help you explore identity, relationships, and access to healthcare. Maybe you’ve been told you’re slower to warm up or feel chronically misunderstood, but you could blossom if allowed to build trust at your own pace with someone who is gently curious, patient, and motivated to understand your perspective.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists
Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.
Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.
How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.
What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
