Sometimes the hardest transitions are the ones that quietly change us- a new baby, a relationship shift, a career that no longer fits, the loss of a loved one, or the realization that you've spent years taking care of everyone else while losing touch with yourself. We're left anxious, disconnected, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve us. Even when things look "fine" on the outside, it can be exhausting to carry self-doubt, overthinking, people-pleasing, or the lingering effects of difficult experiences. I want to help you on your journey to reconnect with what matters most and create meaningful, lasting change.

A guiding principle for me is a quote from my Nana- “we are all here to help each other through.” For every one of us there is a time when extra support is beneficial. I bring over ten years of experience working with children, teenagers, and young adults in the Baltimore area. Working collaboratively with clients I use evidence-based practices including CBT, psychodynamic therapy, and client-centered therapy. Additionally, I have training in animal-assisted therapy and have my dog, Marlow, join in on some sessions.

Do you struggle with anxiety that affects your day to day life at work and in relationships? Do you feel exhausted by the never ending dialogue that runs through your head non-stop? Do you wonder if there is more to life, that somehow it should fee better? Calmer? More than ever, people are feeling worried and overwhelmed about all the "what if's" in life and how to manage it all. Staying on the constant hamster wheel can lead to burnout and long term issues that affect your mind and body. It doesn't have to be so hard to live a better life.

As a licensed art therapist, I help guide people through the transformative power of their own creativity.
Art-making is a whole-brain activity from which anyone of any age or background can benefit. In addition to being a supportive coping strategy, the bilateral process of creating can help the body process trauma in a way that words alone cannot. Art experience, talent, or even interest is not necessary or required for us to work together effectively.

I utilize a variety of games, play-based, art-based, and movement-based activities to encourage my young clients to explore and communicate their thoughts and feelings in a productive and therapeutic manner.
My ideal client is someone who is ready to undergo the therapeutic experience. It's not an easy process and I want to support clients through this journey. The journey is a collaborative effort, and clients should be ready to work to become the person they want to be. In life, we go through many trials and tribulations and I strive to create a safe space for my clients to open up about their issues and heal. I think we can work through the struggles of your life together by building a strong therapeutic alliance.

I have had the privilege to work with a wide range of clients in terms of age, gender, race, social economic status, and acuity of symptoms. While everyone has something unique to bring to therapy I find the most fulfillment working with couples, those dealing with issues regarding their sexuality, first responders (police, firefighters, EMT’s), individuals recovering from trauma, and people dealing with concerns with technology such as video game or online addiction.

Through client-centered practices such as: Talk Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Creative Therapy ( art, music, narrative), and Dialectic Behavioral therapy we can navigate the relationship within yourself and with others.
Seeking out therapeutic services is healthy for our mind/body/soul connection. Just as we go to the gym to keep our bodies healthy, or puzzles to keep our mind sharp, we go to therapy to keep our connection between our mind/body/soul. Further, relationships are the center of connection: how we relate to others (family, friends, coworkers,) and the relationship we have with ourselves. It is my privilege to sit with you (or your family members) while we navigate the roadblocks and successes that make your life experience uniquely yours. It is my hope that in through this exploration and work, we can improve your relationships.

You may look like you have things together on the outside—but inside, you feel exhausted, tense, or emotionally disconnected. Many of the people I work with are high-functioning, responsible, and capable, yet quietly struggling with anxiety, unresolved trauma, or a sense that something is “off” in their lives. Even if nothing looks wrong on the surface, you might notice patterns like overthinking, emotional numbness, difficulty relaxing, or carrying more than your share in relationships.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
