The path we walk in our lives can be steep, slippery, and chaotic at times. The mission of Sacred Path Wellness is to provide a safe space to explore and heal the emotional burdens we carry that can often lead to disharmony within. Allowing the space for exploration, restoration, and coming to know these parts of yourself that carry these burdens in your life (whether that is shame/guilt, pain, loss, traumas, feelings of worthlessness, overwhelming sadness, anxiousness/stress, perfectionism, fears and/or others), we can often grow free to move through the path of our lives as we are meant to, fulfilled and with peace.

Do you have a vision for your life but feel limited by your self-doubting beliefs and habits? Would you like to get more out of life than what you have experienced so far? Oprah Winfrey once said, “The whole point of being alive is to evolve into the complete person you were intended to be.” In order to do this we have to overcome blocks to our fullest potential. Together, we can tap into your inner power to become a conscious creator of your life. Hidden within you are the tools to create your dream life, career and relationship that may currently feel out of reach.

Although my specializations include working with clients with anxiety and self-esteem, I have many years working with children and families suffering with depression and PTSD.
Learning to balance the stresses of everyday life can prove to be challenging. Eventually it can take a toll on your mental health and self-care no longer becomes a priority. My mission is to work collaboratively with you to set realistic goals, empower you to put yourself first, cultivate self-awareness and reduce self-doubt. Through therapy, I aim to uncover the value systems which play a role in the barriers to your growth. This is accomplished by utilizing integrated therapeutic approaches which will include mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI) and others.

Depression, anxiety , stress, and trauma can all lead to feelings of heaviness and not understanding how to move beyond your current pain or numbness. Are you struggling to move forward with your life, because you can’t even cope with the day that’s in front of you? Or, are your thoughts in an endless replaying loop? You might be feeling disconnected from those you love, and not understanding why isolation has become your lifestyle. This is a part of your story, but not all of your story. Part of your therapy goal will include discovering a greater understanding of self, as well as establishing healthy coping strategies.

My experience with trauma is that fear, anxiety and depression are difficult things to live with.
As an LCSW, Registered Play Therapist and Certified Trauma Practitioner, I enjoy helping individuals overcome their problems. I have been working with children, adolescents and their families for over 20 years and utilize expressive therapies, including art, play and yoga, to help them heal. Since the pandemic, I have shifted my focus towards working more with adults, parents and teens who experience anxiety , or are recovering from trauma or have symptoms of depression. Many of my clients desire guidance in life transitions and self love. I have since extended my practice to the Maryland area as I plan to relocate in the future.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
