I am Board Certified in both Clinical and Neuropsychology, and my practice has evolved over the years to a primary focus on evaluations. Psychoeducational evaluations focus on academic skills and functioning, with ADD/ADHD,
Learning
Disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Disorders being of particular concern. These evaluations often lead to accommodations in schools and colleges and on standardized admissions tests. Neuropsychological evaluations examine the impact of psychiatric and neurological disorders on cognitive and emotional functioning. Cogscreen--AE evaluations are conducted to screen pilots and air traffic controllers.

, and group psychotherapy.
I have been helping individuals and couples work through difficult issues in order to have a more fulfilling life for over fifteen years. Having been trained to work with people across the lifespan has enabled me to integrate an understanding of the origins, development and resolution of behavior and relationship patterns which are presently holding the client back from important accomplishments or feelings of well-being in their lives, even though these patterns may very well have historically originated out of a functional need.

Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, parenting difficulties, chronic stress, life transitions or the effects of trauma? Would you like psychotherapy to be a collaborative process, where we determine a personalized approach to our work together? I typically blend insight-oriented therapy to deepen self-understanding, mindfulness practices to cultivate awareness and compassion, cognitive-behavioral interventions for symptom relief, and mind-body medicine for regulating the nervous system. With specialized training in yoga and meditation, I enjoy interweaving Western clinical psychology with Eastern yoga and mindfulness-based practices for a holistic, strengths based, mind-body approach to health and well being.

disabilities is also provided.
In today's hurried world I strive always to listen and never to rush. Here, individuals find a safe place to "unpack" their worries and feel understood. I particularly enjoy working with families to uncover sources of academic difficulty and develop individualized solutions. With young children, parents are always in integral part of the treatment and I frequently consult with other health care professionals and educators in order to create a broad treatment team.

learning
new skills to deal with your emotions is the next step.
In my practice I treat women, ages 18-35, dealing with a wide range of issues including, but not limited to, disordered eating, body image disturbances, anxiety, perfectionism, and depression, as well as relationship and identity issues. Therapy can be helpful as you navigate times of transition, change, or if you are 'stuck' or unable to achieve desired goals. Having witnessed and participated in twenty years of clients' progress, I have great confidence in this powerful process. We all want to feel optimistic and enjoy our lives, with minimal stress, doubts, anxiety, depression, and confusion. Most of us have strong and centered parts that were buried or muted as a result of trauma, loss or other painful experiences.
Learning
to empower these healthy parts helps us manage inevitable difficult thoughts and feelings more calmly and effectively and to enjoy healthy relationships. Depending on individual situations, short term therapy or Skype sessions may be possible.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?
When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.
When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?
It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.
What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?
Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.
Are there medications for learning disabilities?
Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
