Through my experience, I have developed a love for partnering with adolescents and young adults through
grief
, trauma, and both intra- and interpersonal conflict.
We have all learned the hard way that life doesn't go according to plan, and that's where I come in. My goal is to provide you with a non-judgmental space to process, find balance, and the tools to successfully navigate all that gets thrown your way. In this work, I believe that it’s all about relationships. I prioritize bringing my most authentic self to create a safe and welcoming environment where we can develop a strong foundation to achieve your goals. While we may set big picture goals in our time together, I believe there is no win too small to celebrate and emphasize progress over perfection.

I work with individuals and couples and have experience with many presenting issues including depression, anxiety, relationship issues,
grief
&
loss
, career development & life transitions, trauma & PTSD, addictions, chronic pain, and low self esteem.
In my practice, I believe it is the relationship you share with a therapist that drives growth, change and relief from the symptoms that lead you to seek out therapy. Above all, for your therapy to be successful, you must feel safe, supported and understood. For many people, the hardest part of starting is making that first phone call to ask for help. From the beginning, I strive to meet you where you are and make a meaningful connection, so we can actively work together to help you feel better.

Your best efforts to improve your connection with your partner or with your family only seem to make things worse. You feel unheard, unseen, unloved, ineffective, and you wonder if the people you love so much care about you at all. Loneliness, frustration, and a gloomy view of the future have replaced the aliveness you used to feel. Or perhaps
grief
has made a home in your heart and no matter what you do you cannot move on from the pain. Or maybe you have lived through events that left you feeling as if something in you changed forever, as if the best of your life is gone and you will never experience true joy again.

People seek psychotherapy feeling unhappy or helpless to bring about change in their life or fulfill their dreams. Patients are overcome with symptoms of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse or other problems, which in reality are unconscious defenses, blocking repressed feelings about something that went wrong, often in childhood, which is not yet resolved. These defenses once were adaptive, by protecting and helping them survive, but are no longer effective. I help people work through their underlying
grief
and face their feelings (sadness, anger, disappointment, yearning, powerlessness) surrounding trauma or
loss
, enabling them to engage in more free, authentic, satisfying lives.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
