My work integrates my experience as an Advanced Imago Therapist, EMDR therapist, training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, HeartMath, Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Coaching and Emotional Freedom Technique.
I have been helping individuals and couples transform their lives for over 25 years. My work is holistic. We target the root causes of your distress rather than skimming the surface level of symptoms. Only when root causes are addressed can symptoms dissolve. We dive deeply into the core issues that are keeping you stuck, disconnected and dissatisfied in your life and relationships. The process is efficient, effective, respectful, safe and profound. My ideal clients are people who are passionate about healing and releasing patterns that no longer serve them.

I primarily practice EMDR therapy to allow clients to heal their emotional brain and to visualize the life they deserve.
I am a therapist with 20 years' experience providing holistic brain-based treatment for enhanced decision making and performance coaching as well as trauma informed therapy to adolescents and adults. This approach allows me to treat PTSD, anxiety and depression but also offers brain-based coaching for career challenges, performance enhancement, future visualization. My therapy style is client centered and non-judgmental. I focus on three areas - EMDR for trauma healing, depression and anxiety. EMDR (visualization) for sports injury recovery and EMDR for high level decision making (home purchase, college, career etc.)

I am trained in EMDR and interested in exploring the existential themes/concerns we all face.
Opening up around the vulnerable and intimate details of our lives can be very uncomfortable. Together we can navigate the relational dynamics and patterning that is inhibiting potential. I greatly value your trust and relish opportunities to facilitate self-discovery and growth by balancing both supportive and challenging interventions. I will always hold the best of intentions at heart to set you up for long-term success.

I also practice Internal Family Systems Therapy & EMDR .
I believe in the innate goodness of people. Problems arise when we lack the ability to communicate what's really going on within or can't get past defenses to understand another person's feelings or experiences. Most people haven't been taught the skills to be safe listeners and so we grow up believing that others don't have capacity to understand us. I love bringing people closer by teaching them to cross the bridge into the world of others without losing themselves. I teach emotional safety by demonstrating emotional safety and believe breakdowns create opportunities for new breakthroughs.

I often utilize EMDR , CBT, or DBT in my practice and passionately serve survivors of trauma, particularly survivors of domestic and sexual violence, as well as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and life changes.
Whether you feel unable to live the life you desire because of painful childhood experiences, traumatic memories, limiting core beliefs, insecure attachments in relationships, or for reasons completely unique to your own life experiences, it IS possible to find healing. You CAN live a life that feels most authentic to who you are, even if it seems unattainable. Using mind-body approaches and evidence-based techniques, I hope to facilitate your access to the innate and powerful resources that exist, and ultimately empower you to create a life that is meaningful and representative of who you want to be.

I work with women ready for freedom from their abusers, ready to live life on their terms using EMDR , expressive art, & talk therapy to find their self worth, voice, and confidence, again.
Do you have a hard time trusting yourself and knowing what you like, how you feel, how to describe yourself? Have you been in a series of "bad" relationships ( boss, friend, family, love) not sure why you keep repeating the pattern or attracting such narcisistic people? Do you feel anxious and unsure of using your voice and asking for what you want/need? Do you have a hard time setting boundaries with others? Do you feel a lot of shame/guilt over choices you have made and want to let go of those feelings? Wouldn't it be nice if you were treated how you treat others? Do you feel you need to take care of others, but are last priority?

If you're ready for something new, consider a fresh take on therapy: one that blends traditional talk therapy with EMDR , expressive therapies, and a deep and holistic look at your life and your sense of wellbeing.
Are you a professional in the DC metro area, thriving in some areas of your life, but feeling "stuck" or "in the dark" in others? Are you grappling with a recent loss, a major decision or life transition, trauma, grief/loss, or symptoms related to anxiety or depression? Do you want more for your life, your career, your relationships? Sometimes the things that happen to us can lead to negative beliefs about our selves or the world, and these beliefs get in the way of living the lives we've always wanted. You are more than capable of untangling these beliefs. You are motivated and ready for change.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
