Do you worry that you are not a good enough parent, partner or friend? Do you have trouble getting to sleep when you are overloaded with thoughts about mistakes you've made? Do you wake up most mornings feeling
depressed
or anxious? Are your moods swinging- you have a short fuse- or are you shutting down? If yes, you could be suffering from
depression
& anxiety. The cause could be chemical-due to a family history or it could be situational-due to a loss or traumatic event. Traumatic events include becoming a caregiver to a family member with mental illness.

Pain is an unavoidable and a necessary part of life. But suffering -- especially prolonged, "punishing" suffering -- is not. So many people seeking therapy suffer from anxiety,
depression
, difficulties in relationships, and self-sabotaging behaviors. We use defenses to avoid our emotions. Ironically emotions aren't the SOURCE of pain but in fact are there to HELP us HEAL from the painful losses, hurts and challenges of life. You don't come to therapy to talk about your week. You come for relief from your suffering, for a chance to work through and find meaning in your pain and, just as with a broken bone, heal stronger and better!

depression

I believe that it is essential for clients to find the right fit for their therapist. I want the client to know that my office is a safe space and I will do everything I can to help them navigate through the tough times in their life. Coming from a Greek background influences my desire to maintain cultural competence and tailor therapy to best support one’s beliefs and values. I will work as my client's advocate, ensuring that they feel valued and heard. I strive to create a relationship built on trust, communication, growth, and respect.

I have years of experience helping people who have experienced:pain,
depression
, anxiety, relationship difficulties, transitions, difficulty with change, addictions, self-esteem fluctuations, loneliness, loss, divorce, and people who have trouble being close to people.
Most people would change what is making them unhappy, if they could. I feel my job is to help you become aware of the parts of yourself that are negatively impacting you.I help you look at the patterns that are making you feel stuck. We work together to understand what prevents you from attaining a better relationship with yourself and your loved ones. I believe that all humans desire to understand and to be understood. I create an environment where you can just simply be yourself.

While I work on a variety of issues, I enjoy supporting adults and couples coming to therapy for help with their relationships, family dynamics, work-life balance, identity exploration,
depression
, anxiety, and/or problems with substance use.
As you’re looking for a therapist, it’s important to find someone you feel comfortable opening up to, and maybe even sharing aspects of your life that are hard to discuss. My clients often go there with me quickly; they can tell that I will be warm, supportive, nonjudgmental, and honor their trust. My approach to therapy is multicultural, LGBTQ+ affirming, sex/kink positive, and I have a background working with first gen people. Clients who want to better understand and express their emotions have found therapy with me helpful for learning communication and skills they weren’t taught growing up.

depression
, anxiety, and ADHD.
I look forward to bearing witness to your healing journey. It is an honor for clients to share their experiences with me. It is important for me to have a nurturing and empathic relationship with my clients that shows unconditional positive regard. Meeting my clients where they are and meeting them at their pace in the therapeutic process is important in order to foster client empowerment in the therapeutic process. I believe that childhood events impact our present and how we connect to the world around us. I believe that therapy is a great tool to begin your healing process and it's never too late to start!

Being a human is hard. Anxiety keeps us up at night.
Depression
weighs us down. And that critical voice never fails to let us know exactly how we screwed up. We feel numb, unsettled -- disconnected from those we love and disengaged from what matters most. Looking at our lives, we realize that this is not what we had planned on, and the life we yearn for seems out of reach.

Life is hard. Perhaps you feel stuck or unhappy without knowing why. Maybe you are reading this because you have been impacted by difficulties in your life causing you pain right now. Most of us can't escape the suffering inherent to life. Relationship problems, anxiety,
depression
, mindbody disorders, self-defeating patterns, attention/learning problems, trauma and abuse frequently motivate people to enter therapy. Your ability to accept help when needed is the hallmark of inner strength. Knowledge is power, and knowledge about yourself is at the core of how you relate to others, cope, and make decisions in your life

“We don’t have to do it all alone, we were never meant to.”-Brene Brown. Therapy provides clients with a safe space to process one’s life challenges, gain a deeper understanding of themselves, and accomplish goals. My role as a therapist is to provide clients with a warm, comforting, and non-judgmental environment; a space that feels safe to share one’s story. I enjoy working collaboratively with my clients, not making changes for you, but rather supporting you in coping with life’s stressors.

Over the years, I've worked with hundreds of adults and young people who were struggling with anxiety,
depression
, ADHD, substance abuse, career issues, and relationship problems.
Stress and emotional pain are feelings that we all experience and often times it can become overwhelming, especially now! Often we find unhealthy ways to cope with the pain that we are feeling and our problems get worse. With my experience as a therapist, I have helped many young people walk the path to a healthy form of emotional healing. Whether you yourself or your child is struggling with feeling down, having excessive worry, struggling to concentrate, acting out, or drinking/smoking too much, therapy can help.

I work with individuals and couples and have experience with many presenting issues including
depression
, anxiety, relationship issues, grief & loss, career development & life transitions, trauma & PTSD, addictions, chronic pain, and low self esteem.
In my practice, I believe it is the relationship you share with a therapist that drives growth, change and relief from the symptoms that lead you to seek out therapy. Above all, for your therapy to be successful, you must feel safe, supported and understood. For many people, the hardest part of starting is making that first phone call to ask for help. From the beginning, I strive to meet you where you are and make a meaningful connection, so we can actively work together to help you feel better.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?
Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.
What happens in therapy for depression?
Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.
What therapy types help with depression?
Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.
Can therapy for depression be done online?
Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.
How effective is therapy for depression?
Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
