It is from this core relationship that a child, adolescent or young adult with self-esteem, anxiety,
anger management
, or other issues, can begin to feel comfortable and trust the process of therapy.
I am trained in a psychodynamic and relational approach that includes the use of play therapy, art, music, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. I have spent the last 20 years working clinically with children and adolescents in school settings in Baltimore City, Montgomery County and Prince Georges County. I currently combine my work as a school counselor in a special education facility with private practice.

Therapy is a powerful tool that helps us heal from adult and childhood trauma and difficulties we are currently facing. Therapy helps us to develop new coping skills and helps us navigate life circumstances. We are often unaware that much of our early life experiences affect our self-esteem, the relationships we choose, how we interact with others, and our overall approach to life. My experience is in partnering with teens and adults to grow through and heal from a broad range of challenges and stressors, which can result in anxiety, depression, feeling isolated,
anger
, fear, worry, hopelessness, and other distress.

Couples work is challenging and emotionally provocative. Feelings of frustration, pain,
anger
and discouragement alternating with relief, hopefulness, and excitement are common among couples who are trying to resolve their marital discord. Although each couple is unique the following principles hold true in treatment of the majority of partners. 1) A good marriage requires both spouses to psychologically separate from their family of origin and shift their primary love, loyalty to each other. An individual cannot fully participate in an interdepended relationship without being first an independent and autonomous person.

People seek psychotherapy feeling unhappy or helpless to bring about change in their life or fulfill their dreams. Patients are overcome with symptoms of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance abuse or other problems, which in reality are unconscious defenses, blocking repressed feelings about something that went wrong, often in childhood, which is not yet resolved. These defenses once were adaptive, by protecting and helping them survive, but are no longer effective. I help people work through their underlying grief and face their feelings (sadness,
anger
, disappointment, yearning, powerlessness) surrounding trauma or loss, enabling them to engage in more free, authentic, satisfying lives.

My approach is identifying interactional cycles/behaviors that align with with a client’s values while also identifying those that contribute to stress,
anger
, or anxiety.
Do you find it difficult to communicate your needs and feel heard, understood, or valued? Perhaps, you need a space to reflect on the different components of your life and how it impacts you and your relationships? Maybe, your relationship isn't meeting your expectations and you want to have a partnership that is based on closeness, collaboration, and shared values. Whether you are seeking a space to re-build trust or learn effective communication strategies, my ideal clients are those who are motivated to create a life that is fulfilling for themselves and/or their relationship.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.
How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.
Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.
What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
