Change is a constant in all our lives and it can take on many forms. Sometimes it can mean loss (death, divorce or end of a relationship, career changes or retirement, aging, family transition, moving to a new area) and sometimes it can involve helping someone you know cope with their changes or challenges (social skills, medical status, mental health, etc.)

(I am not currently accepting new clients into my practice.) I'm very comfortable working with adolescents and have been able to provide them with a safe, supportive and non-judgmental setting in which to explore their conflicts around family , school, and relationships as well as to consider their hopes and anxieties about the future. Typically, my clients enter therapy to work on mood and relationship issues, school/work performance problems (including motivation), and anger issues. I also have a great deal of experience working with adults in individual, family , and couples' therapy, and I offer parenting guidance.

You want to overcome the challenges that make sex unenjoyable, difficult, even painful, but you wonder if therapy can help.

Are you consumed with disturbing automatic thoughts, and spending hours chasing, analyzing, reviewing, and giving meaning to the intrusive thoughts? There is hope and recovery to overcome OCD. I will teach you how to change your relationship with anxiety by looking it in the face and walking towards it instead of walking away. It is easy to stay trapped and believe the false messages that your OCD feeds you. I will teach you how to rewire your brain into no longer believing those false threats that your brain is torturing you with. My treatment approach teaches you how to stop competing

Ideally, clients develop a trust with their therapist to work towards resolving those situations that are causing them stress, pain, discomfort or anxiety. Therapy is like a journey that requires trust, support and guidance in order to reach a goal. I have been working with individuals, children and families since 1989 in a variety of settings. I work extensively with victims of trauma, separation/divorce, and clients dealing with depression, bereavement and anxiety. If your goal is to reach inner peace then I can assist you in completing that journey.

Congratulations! Reaching out is the first step to changing you and your loved one's life! I use a comprehensive, therapeutic approach helping family members and individuals struggling with alcohol and substance abuse, sex / love addiction and eating disorders. As an addiction specialist I help families discover how to 'motivate' and then 'stop' the struggling individual to find a path to sobriety. I believe that substance abuse is a result of underlying emotional dysfunctions, and, once addressed, relieves and heals the cycle of addiction.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
