One of the main goals of therapy is for an individual to learn growth in their every day life. My personal goal is for each client to achieve individual results at their own pace, while fostering self-determination and positivity in a world of uncertainty. Each client is treated on an individual basis and treatment plans are tailored to each individual need.
I began working in the mental health field in 2007 as part of a therapy team and in 2013 opened Ahimsa Counseling with the mission to provide LGBTQIA affirming and culturally competent counseling to individuals in Harford County. I work with adolescents (16 and up) and adults, with a specialization in trauma informed and healing centered care. I utilize strength based client focused therapies including EMDR, CBT, EFT, and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy in order to assist clients processing through and healing prior trauma. This work aids clients in empowerering themselves while they recover, grow, and learn healthier ways of being.
Looking for a therapist can be overwhelming but it's an important act of self care to make the time and energy for your mental health to be a priority. This is the first step in a commitment to personal growth. My goal is to give you the space, tools and strategies to support you through that process. Growth and change can be uncomfortable but when a client is willing to do the necessary work it can be transformative.
I have been a behavioral health professional for 31 years and a licensed and certified clinical social worker in Maryland for 24 years. I thoroughly enjoy working with older adolescent and adult clients who are seeking help in removing obstacles to their pursuits of fulfilling lives. I have a strong developmental perspective in helping clients gain insight and set their own paths.

Therapy is not education or advice-giving. People are unique, so elements of therapy are tailored because healing is different for everybody. My treatment approach is an atmosphere were you can speak your mind safely, to someone who listens, listens intelligently, and cares is important. I believe a successful counseling experience depends on the therapists ability to understand and respect the unique concerns, background, and context of each patient. I am committed to achieving such an understanding in every counseling relationship.

Is there an anxious voice in your head that sometimes speaks at full volume? Do you feel alone, uncertain, or "less than"? Or maybe you feel like you just can't stay on top of your life. You procrastinate and only get things done by self-medicating with panic? You may have habits you don't feel good about... you overeat, shop too much, spend countless hours online or in front of tv, or get too much or too little sleep. You might feel stuck, frustrated, or like something is missing. Or maybe you are a parent who feels worried and unsure about how to help a child or adolescent who is struggling?
