I have been working with first responders and veterans since 2018.
Are you the one everyone counts on, but feel like you are running on empty? You keep going, stay calm in chaos, and carry more than most people know. If you are a first responder, veteran, healthcare worker, or high-stress professional, you have likely learned to put your own needs last. Underneath the strength, you may feel anxious, numb, disconnected, or burned out. Therapy gives you space to slow down, process what you have been carrying, and start healing in a way that works for you.

Many of the individuals I work with have experienced traumatic or adverse events that continue to affect their relationships, sense of self, and emotional well-being. My specialty includes treating trauma and PTSD, survivors of narcissistic or psychopathic abuse, and adult children of emotionally immature parents and of course, treatment of depression and anxiety. I also work with women navigating emotional and cognitive changes related to perimenopause and menopause. As a Certified Mental Health & Nutrition Clinical Specialist (CMNCS) with over 20 years of experience in fitness and nutrition I offer a holistic approach to healing.

I started my work at an outpatient healthcare clinic in Baltimore City primarily assisting those who were unhoused. During this work, I partnered with many diverse individuals. As I got to know them and our relationships developed, I realized how valuable it was to spend time with them in their communities and to understand their backgrounds. I developed a deep appreciation of how challenging it can be to share your story with others. Because of this, I feel strongly committed to continuing my work with individuals who are struggling with life changes or other traumas.

In your daily life, you're a competent and confident adult - you've done the tough work of shedding life scripts that don't suit you and perhaps even reclaimed your power as a LGBTQ+, nonmonogamous, kinky, or neurodivergent person. When things get tough in the relationships that matter the most, however, you find that you feel alone, stuck, or adrift. You know there's a worthwhile life beyond stress, grief, and anxiety and you're ready to take it back.

I’m a trauma-informed therapist whose work centers on the connection between unresolved complex trauma and the maladaptive coping behaviors that often lead to functional impairment in adulthood. Many of my clients arrive feeling stuck in patterns they can’t quite name—cycles of addiction, emotional shutdown, chronic self-doubt, or relational conflict that seem to repeat despite their best efforts. Beneath these behaviors, there’s often a history of trauma that hasn’t been fully processed, and a nervous system that’s learned to survive rather than thrive.

It's okay to feel lost, or not fully know who you are. To help you find clarity, we'll work together in exploring societal expectations and generational patterns within your family of origin, allowing you to let go of ways of being and thinking that no longer serve you. I work primarily with folks as they navigate life transitions, experience grief and loss, struggle with depression, anxiety and the lingering impacts of trauma, and explore aspects of identity such as gender, sexuality and spirituality. I also support folks in service, helping and healthcare roles who are navigating burnout, vicarious trauma and impostor syndrome.

With over 15 years of experience, I specialize in supporting individuals facing depression, anxiety, adjustment challenges, trauma, military and first responder stressors, women’s issues, and divorce.
I use evidence-based techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Family Systems Therapy to guide my work. I believe many struggles stem from unhelpful thought patterns, and with support, these patterns can be recognized. Together, we work to create healthier ways of thinking and relating—building resilience, healing, and lasting positive change.

Currently accepting patients for Telehealth sessions and remote EMDR. I've been blessed to be able to work in this field for over the last 27 years, 18 as a psychotherapist. Over that time I've been able to work with a myriad amount of problems, ranging from anxiety, depression, substance abuse, ADHD in both adults and children, as well as work with families in distress. I personally take great enjoyment in working with people with anxiety based difficulties and trauma, having had the greatest success with this population.

I am a military veteran.
If I were born at any other time, a healer or a community helper. Helping people is my mission. I became a therapist because of my interest in hearing people's stories and working on the most essential part of our bodies: our minds. I think it is easy to find yourself in a hopeless situation, not understanding how you got here or where to even start unpacking all the things that made this mess possible. I've witnessed many people say, "I don't know who I'd be without it." This is a chance to discover with me who that person is and what you want to achieve out of life. I believe change is possible.

First Responders Therapists
Why is mental health important for first responders?
As part of their work, first responders are often exposed to high levels of stress, trauma, and physical injury that can put them at a greater risk for serious mental health conditions than the general population. Conditions like PTSD, anxiety, substance use, and depression are more common in first responders, which can greatly reduce quality of life and lead to burnout, sleep disruption, and even suicidal thoughts. Therapy can offer an opportunity for first responders to process difficult on-the-job experiences and develop coping skills to better manage any mental health symptoms they may experience.

How can first responders get access to mental health support?
Many first responders can access therapy for free or at a very low cost through their employer, such as through an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Workplaces may also offer or have referral recommendations for support groups, where first responders can meet with others in their profession to receive support. Individuals who would like to access mental health services outside of their employer may use their insurance benefits to see a therapist, which they can find by searching for therapists online or asking for recommendations from their primary care physician.

What type of therapy is best for first responders?
The best therapy approach depends on the mental health concerns of the client. Since many first responders struggle with trauma or PTSD, they may benefit from trauma-specific therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Exposure Therapy, or Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Individuals with symptoms of anxiety, depression, or stress may alternatively benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or mindfulness-based therapeutic approaches, which can help clients develop coping skills to manage distressing thoughts.

Can therapy for first responders help with trauma and PTSD?
Therapy can be highly effective in both treating and preventing trauma and PTSD in first responders. Typically, therapy for trauma and PTSD focuses on developing stress management skills and managing intrusive or unwanted thoughts. Therapists working with first responders often help clients strengthen their relationships and reduce harmful coping mechanisms, such as excessive substance use. Additionally, therapists assist first responders in establishing daily habits that support overall mental and physical health and enhance resilience to future stress, such as regular physical exercise, mindfulness practices, and improved eating habits.
