You’re not broken — you’re searching. Maybe you’ve found success in your life, but something still feels hollow. Maybe you’re overwhelmed by a loss, a transition, or the steady pressure of being human in a world that doesn’t stop moving. Or maybe you’ve started asking big questions about life: Who am I now? What really matters to me? How do I live fully knowing life is fragile and uncertain? These questions can shake your foundations — but also open the door to deeper meaning, clarity, and freedom. I get it: as an adult with ADHD, I know what it is like to yearn for answers to these questions, too.

When human beings experience various forms of traumas or extreme life stressors, it is not uncommon for their lives to unravel. What interest me into the mental health field initially, was that anxiety and depression was prevalent in my family. I wanted to understand and become more knowledgeable about the mental health issues my family suffered. It became my mission to help others moving forward, to recover from anxiety and depression. My desire became to help my clients not only recover from anxiety and depression, but to become the greatest version of theirselves.

My ideal client wants to explore their reactions, life events, and internal states like their thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. They do not need to feel extra motivated or fearless but with curiosity and a willingness to explore and see what comes up. Perhaps you need help focusing or communicating with a partner, friend, family member, or workplace associate. Maybe you are trying to process difficult events. Maybe you would like to maintain mental health and perhaps find a higher level of functioning for yourself through self-development. I am open to working with many different goals and philosophies.

Modern relationships are HARD. It’s a struggle to find the right person OR to wonder if your current partner is possibly the wrong person. It’s tough when you feel burned by or totally confused about your path. Maybe you’ve even made choices or overlooked things you now regret. Or, maybe it’s a relationship with a boss or coworkers who undervalue you or play favorites with others. Your work ethic and good ideas have long taken a backseat to putting out fires or just avoiding things way more than you should. You’re past thinking that life’s fair. But, you never thought that things could go THIS wrong or get under your skin THIS much.

As my practice’s name implies, we can all feel broken at times. And to compound matters, we might face discrimination through no fault of our own—on the basis of race, sexual orientation, gender, finances, age, health or ability status, or neurocognitive differences. In my years of practice with the chronically ill and under-housed, I’ve seen and addressed the fallout from stigma and institutional barriers all day every day. So that’s the bad news, which you probably already know.

Thinking about your journey in life in terms of how you decided that you were going to do some self-reflecting and self-care required you to be open and honest, which is an important step and takes courage. I have been working with individuals in depth who are experiencing depression, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and patterns of family dysfunction. Using a strength perspective model and client/therapist collaborative approach, sessions are geared towards individuals’ goals regarding specific mental health needs.

With all of the challenges that life can throw at us, it is easy to feel overwhelmed or helpless. Life satisfaction and happiness might seem like distant goals with no clear path forward to reach them. You may find that you are spending more and more time stuck in your own head, perseverating on your struggles and acting as your own harshest critic. To me, therapy rooted in compassion and empathy can be a fantastic tool for navigating these challenges and discovering meaning and self-empowerment.

My name is Carmella. Life can throw us many challenges, and sometimes it’s difficult to navigate the emotional weight of past experiences. If you're feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck, it might be because those events have created deeper patterns or wounds that are still affecting your present-day life. Our goal at Well-being is to provide a space where you can explore and unpack those events, identify their root causes, and understand how they continue to impact your well-being. We work with individuals who are seeking a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment to delve into their struggles.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists
How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
