I am a board-certified, licensed graduate professional counselor in Maryland with a special interest in working with trauma and codependency .
Whether it is a codependent relationship, healing from trauma, a major illness, the loss of a loved one or you're not quite sure what "it" is yet, I can support you in gaining a deeper sense of wholeness and well-being. My starting point for all of my work is simple: you matter. Your story matters, your experience matters, your desire to heal, grow, and thrive matters. In all of our lives there are times where we need help making sense of our stories and experiences and I am here to journey with you in that process. I look forward to connecting with you!

Although I help people from many walks of life, my specialty is helping queer women cope with codependency , life transitions and relationship issues.
Therapeutic Compatibility Check: Do you often feel insecure, lonely, and anxious in your relationships? Do you ever feel controlled and completely consumed by your emotions? Do you constantly wonder if your relationships will always be this HARD? Do you have a hard time trusting others and fear they might abandon you? Do you often find yourself saying YES to others when you really wish you could say NO? Do you struggle to stick with your boundaries when you get push back from other people? Do you ever tell yourself you can’t be okay until everyone you love is okay?

Fit in everywhere and nowhere at the same time? I get it. I help diverse women who juggle multiple cultural identities heal. Maybe you’re the child of immigrants, multiracial or a racially ambiguous chameleon, an expat, “third culture kid”, bilingual (or sad you lost your parent’s language), feel culturally displaced, part of a religious minority, or just don’t quite fit into any one box. You probably feel suffocated by the drive to overfunction, perform, and be what everyone else needs you to be. You might find it hard to get your own needs met and feel unsettled in yourself and your relationships.

You are a unique magnificent being of Love, Peace, Joy and Light. You are whole and total...not separate from anyone or anything. It in only believing in thoughts, judgments, especially negative ones, that creates suffering, I would love to support you in: 1) learning how not to believe negative thoughts, rather observe and see through them and challenge them:2) when you do identify with them resulting in fear, pain, anger, or sadness how to directly experience them in your heart or body without story so they dissolve. 3) sit in the splendor of who you are and discover all the answers and everything you need is already within you.

I am passionate about helping those who: struggle with addictive behavior, love someone who struggles with addictive behavior, don't identify with a specific addiction but find themselves in survival mode or generally unhappy in life and relationships, or, have worked through a lot of issues but want to take things to the next level and infuse more well-being into their life. I also love working with couples facing challenges related to recovery, communication and/or boundary issues. This is particularly helpful for couples seeking recovery and repair from sexual addiction or betrayal.

To me, the ideal client is someone who is willing to learn about himself: to come to realize his assets and to confront and transcend his limitations. The ideal client has the courage necessary to make the difficult decisions that it often takes to move forward in life. The ideal client sees a sense of purpose in what he goes through, and has the drive necessary to find a commensurate sense of meaning with respect to his circumstances.

Holding space for millennial women to let go of perfectionism, stop people-pleasing, and heal from the past. You feel stuck reliving the past and un-loveable despite "knowing" that you are enough. You've done therapy before but found yourself feeling worse. Does this sound familiar? It's not all in your head. Trauma impacts our perspective and causes us to the see the present through the eyes of the past. This can impact everything from our relationships with friends, to sleep and our performance at work. However, healing is possible if we know how to go about healing it.

I began my counseling career in 1995 after graduating with my master’s degree in Clinical Pastoral Counseling. I had been pursuing hospice work in my internship when I decided to go for an interview at a psych hospital. The job was for addictions work and I ended up being hired and stayed in addictions work for over twenty-eight years. At this point in my career, I am looking to work part time with clients seeking to live life more fully. If you are experiencing any type of grief, stress or just feeling stuck due to life experiences, please consider contacting Divine Counseling to start your journey toward healing.

Codependency Therapists

What therapy types help with codependency problems?

Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?

Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?

Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?

One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
