You don’t exist in just one box, and neither should your therapy. Maybe you’ve been carrying questions about identity, culture, gender, sexuality, or the many roles you move through each day. Maybe grief, trauma, anxiety, or depression feel tangled up with those parts of you. When who you are intersects with how the world responds, it can feel exhausting or isolating. Here, every part of you is welcome. The visible and invisible pieces. The strong parts and the struggling ones. Together, we’ll create space to explore how your identities shape your experiences and how they can also be sources of resilience and strength.

Life is messy. But you don't have to struggle alone. Maybe your life has been turned upside down by a big transition or an unexpected loss. Maybe the life you're living isn't the life you pictured. You're stuck and you want more - more connection, meaning, hope, and purpose. As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I am trained to help couples and families work through the sources of their struggles and to develop healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

Accepting new clients! Does the idea of starting therapy feel especially daunting? Were you taught that opening up to strangers is something you should avoid? Perhaps you were told not to air out the family business. If that sounds like you, just know that starting therapy can feel like it goes against everything you've been taught! In many cases, the people who urged us not to share are trusted people in our family. As adults, however, we sometimes have to question and challenge the messages we've received. If you're struggling and need help, please know that reaching out for help is exactly the right thing to do!

Greetings, my name is Michelle. As both an individual and a therapist, I have observed that the rapid pace of modern life and ongoing technological advancements have contributed to rising levels of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. These challenges often intensify as we approach the winter season, when longer nights may further impact mental well-being. I am an experienced therapist who worked for over ten years at Johns Hopkins Oncology and Palliative Care before starting my private practice. My specialties also include caregiver burnout, cancer or serious illness diagnosis, grief and trauma.

I practice from a stance of radical inclusion, meaning I seek to welcome all parts of your experience and identity, even those that may feel shameful. I provide a warm and steady space to explore and uncover what feels true and we move at your pace. I have worked effectively with adults and adolescents who are healing from traumatic experiences, including interpersonal violence and abuse, sexual violence, adverse childhood experiences, and the impact of identity-based oppressions. I value the innate wisdom that clients bring to their own healing journeys and see you as the most important expert on your own experiences and desires.

Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, or relationship challenges. They’re often high-achieving individuals who care deeply about others but struggle to find balance and peace in their own lives. They want to feel more in control, improve communication, and reconnect with a sense of purpose and calm.

“The most important step a person can take. It’s not the first one, is it? It’s the next one. Always the next step.” – Brandon Sanderson. There's no question that first step can be a difficult one, and by looking at my profile you're already taking it, but the first step won't get you far unless you take the next one. Many of us are ready for the next step, but find ourselves with obstacles, either inside or outside of ourselves, that get in the way. Whatever your struggles or the path behind you, if you're ready to find the route ahead and put one foot in front of the other, I'm ready to support you along the way.

I believe that our thoughts and emotions are just a fraction of who we are. When we learn to connect with ourselves and our core values, we can begin to observe and navigate these emotions and thoughts with greater clarity and self-compassion. My approach to therapy is grounded in helping clients build that connection—cultivating awareness, balance, and resilience so they can enjoy life and live well.

The goal of therapy isn’t to ‘feel better’, although that should be one of the outcomes. The suffering we experience is rarely a malfunctioning of the brain- it is usually in response to real challenges and is an important way to prepare ourselves for a developmental leap. When we are suffering, our brains release hormones that promote ‘neuroplasticity’, our minds begin to reexamine outdated narratives, and our relationships are challenged with the need for deeper vulnerability and more skillful communication.

The decision to begin therapy and the process of finding a therapist can be challenging, but ultimately extremely rewarding. I am an experienced therapist who understands that the most powerful things in life are often the simplest: to listen attentively, whole-heartedly, and with openness and compassion. I am committed to creating a safe, comforting space where you feel free to be yourself.

I believe mental health care should be viewed just like physical health care, something we all need but in different ways at different times – sometimes an emergency needing acute care or maybe specific ailment, other times you just need a check-up and to check in.
