I primarily draw from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
acceptance
and commitment therapy (
ACT
) and person-centered approaches.
I offer both online and in-person sessions to young adults and emerging adults. I particularly help individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress management, and identity issues. I believe in cultivating a safe space where clients can remove their 'masks' and show up as their most authentic selves. I view therapy as an empowering journey that both client and therapist embark on together. Humans need other humans.

We can break the cycle of those patterns by increasing awareness and
acceptance
of each partner.
Are symptoms related to anxiety, depression, trauma or stress causing you to feel stuck? Do you want to improve your relationship? Together, we can increase your awareness of the thoughts and behaviors that prevent you from living your fullest life. We can explore important experiences which have informed your beliefs about yourself and the world. I will assist you in developing healthy coping skills and support you in moving away from less effective, short-term coping strategies. We will use your strengths to empower you to live in a way that is consistent with your values.

I will help you identify and utilize your own power in this present moment to affect the
acceptance
or change that you need.
**Teletherapy Option Available** The decision to come to therapy typically arises when we reach a point where we say "I can't do this alone." The "this" could be anything; maybe you are experiencing significant stressors at work or in your relationship; perhaps you've had years of trying to manage symptoms of trauma, depression or anxiety alone, and you're tired; it could be that your relationship or family has gone through a major change, and you are struggling to adjust. Whatever the issue is, I am happy that you have acknowledged that support is needed, and in that acknowledgment you are on your way to progress already.

“Feeling nervous about crowds?” “Checking behaviors?” “No motivation to do anything.” Life experiences come with a myriad of emotions including negative ones. Sometimes, when we experience these negative emotions, we get stuck. Emotional states such as, anxiety and depression, can usher in moments of uncertainty and discomfort. As your therapist, I am committed to helping you, the client, navigate those uncomfortable moments. Perhaps your goal is to change unwanted behaviors, learn coping skills, or become more aware of your authentic self. My endeavor is to provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore those goals.

I am currently accepting new clients! I'm a trauma-informed clinician that uses a combination of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy,
Acceptance
and Commitment Therapy and other modalities. I primarily help clients develop coping strategies for stressors, work through issues from their past and create and actionable plan to help deal with mental health concerns. We'll look at the thoughts and emotions that come up when you're feeling anxious or depressed, and we'll see what drives those emotions, be it past trauma, current worries or something else.

Learning to live in present moment awareness empowers you to embrace all of your life in each unfolding moment with greater
acceptance
, aliveness, and peace.
Beneath all of our disappointments, losses, and heartbreaks, we all want to be valued for who we are, accepted for how we feel, and respected for what we think. I will encourage you to cultivate present moment awareness and self-compassion for the painful difficulties, challenging life circumstances, and to the inner narrative that keeps you stuck in habitual patterns of reacting. I specialize in cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based treatment, specifically
ACT
, DBT, and trauma-focused therapy that is evidence-based, which means it has been shown to help people get better and stay better.
Many people come to me concerned that therapy cannot work for them. They feel hopeless, or discouraged, or worried that they are beyond help. In fact, some have had previous therapy experiences that have reinforced these fears. If that is your experience, don't give up hope. We will work together to create a treatment plan tailored to address your individual needs. I am an active and engaged therapist, which means I will not sit back and quietly smoke a pipe while you lie on my office couch. I strive to create a collaborative therapy environment where you are an equal partner in identifying your treatment goals.

My treatment approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and relational, integrating principles of
ACT
, humanistic psychology, CBT, and mindfulness.
We all struggle, and it’s normal to want to avoid difficult feelings. However, learning to be with and understand, even our most dreaded emotions, is a necessary step towards healing and growth. This isn’t something you have to do alone and having someone outside of your personal circle to support, validate, and understand your experience can be invaluable. I am experienced in working with individuals struggling with various mental health concerns but am less interested in the label and most concerned with understanding your experience in order to pinpoint root causes of what is causing discomfort.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
