I am trained as a psychoanalyst and practice a relational form of psychodynamic therapy that views the therapeutic relationship as the site of potential transformation. I often have success working with people who have had negative or lackluster experiences in previous therapies and those who are ambivalent about beginning therapy. I specialize in longterm relational work and in working with adult men and athletes.

The therapeutic relationship is one of the most crucial indicators of success in therapy.
I work with young people and adults to identify problems, understand emotions, and improve our relationships with ourselves, our loved ones, and our world. I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is to create a space for you to rest, explore vulnerability, and develop tools for introspection. I strive to create a non-judgmental atmosphere where you can become the best version of yourself. My approach to therapy is eclectic. I see our work through a trauma-informed, person-centered, culturally-sensitive lens.

People consult therapists for many reasons. Being a psychotherapist is a great privilege - to meet people at critical times, to come to know them deeply, and to help them sort out bewildering, sometimes frightening, often painful thoughts and feelings. Therapy is about relationships, past and present, and especially our relationship to our own interior. It's been my life's work to help people know themselves and make better decisions about their lives. I'm happy to see anyone, with the will, integrity, and courage to open up and work on themselves in depth.

In my experience, a person who seeks therapy wants solutions that work. And since two heads are better than one, I believe an effective therapeutic alliance can help people attain the happiness and fulfillment they desire. When a safe and trusting environment is established, people can learn to value themselves, develop healthy relationships and heal from painful experiences. My therapy style is direct and active. I rely on honesty and authenticity in therapy to guide our collaborative efforts. Therapy can only be successful when the client and therapist have a good working relationship and the client participates fully.

The therapeutic relationship is a safe space for exploring, understanding and addressing problems.
When looking for a therapist, a person or couple may be unsure of how therapy can help them. Therapy helps people respond more effectively and rationally to the challenges of work, relationships, and life. I work within a collaborative framework to help clients find emotional and practical solutions to improve relationships, achieve their goals, and attain emotional well-being and happiness.

I view the therapeutic relationship as a site of healing, growth, and change. Taking a collaborative approach, I create a warm, grounded, and nonjudgmental space where we can explore aspects of your life that are calling to your attention. We'll work to identify places you’re feeling stuck, draw connections between past and present, and unearth the wisdom and healing potential within you. Along the way, we'll consider the stories you carry, your somatic experience, and whatever arises for you in the moment, all in service of coming into deeper relationship with yourself.

Combining Emotion Focused Therapy, neurobiology, and mindfulness techniques we can isolate the negative repetitive patterns that have hijacked your relationship, and learn new ways of responding to each other.
Do you miss the easy way you both would listen and understand each other? Would you like your communication to solve problems instead of start conflicts? When you reach out with a need is it answered? The focus of my practice is relationships, for couples, individuals, and families. Finding ourselves in recurring conflicts and stalemates at home can create a hopeless place, accompanied by feelings of anger, confusion, and loneliness. Through therapy, we can learn to communicate clearly, state our needs, and rebuild trust. Let's work together to unravel the stuck place you're in and rewrite the script for greater joy and connection.

I am an expert in working with older adolescents, adults, and older adults of diverse developmental, cultural, racial, sand immigrant backgrounds to treat anxiety, OCD, ADHD, relationship conflicts, intercultural or immigrant difficulties, and traumatic memories.
Living with anxiety/OCD/ADHD, feeling as if living "between two worlds" by virtue of all of your intersecting identities, and feeling confused about why your past haunts you (and why your most important relationships are suffering) can culminate in helplessness and despair. By creating a non-judgmental, open, and relational space for both reflection and exploration, I can meet you as you are and help you forge and narrate a path that fits. I help you better understand why you experience yourself and the world as you do and identify how you can be more present and move forward with tools, skills, and greater agency in your life.

I believe that feeling heard, understood, and validated is the first step to a therapeutic relationship in which growth to one's potential can occur. Recognition and affirmation of strengths is important to my approach. Being sensitive to an individual's life experience is central to good work. I focus on one's feelings, thoughts, stressors and resources, as well as try to understand the history from which issues evolve. I apply a variety of approaches including cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness-based, and psychodynamic. I have many years of experience working with individuals with a wide array of concerns.

Where does sexual intimacy fit into a loving relationship? As a certified AASECT sex therapist I help couples to see that sexual satisfaction is not an optional but rather is an essential component of a long term happy marriage.
Although the desire for romantic intimacy is perfectly natural, long term intimate relationships are rarely naturally perfect. For over 30 years I have dedicated my professional life to helping individuals and couples fine tune their not-always naturally perfect relationships. Although I am a clinical psychologist who continues to treat individuals suffering from the full spectrum of psychological disorders, most of my career has been devoted to working with individuals and couples experiencing marital, relationship, and/or sexual concerns; to assisting couples seeking relief from the trauma of infidelity; and to treating individuals suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder or anger control issues.

Finding a therapist you can trust with your most important relationship is a tall order.
Most clients seen within a week of consultation. Whether you’ve just moved in together and can’t seem to talk about the dishes without ruining your Sunday night, or you’ve been married for years and are coping with parenting differences, intimacy problems, or affair recovery, couples therapy can be a game-changer for your relationship. When your relationship is in distress, it can feel all-consuming. Instead of laughter, friendship and intimacy, you find yourselves snapping at each other, walking on eggshells, or having blow-out fights. Your best attempts to get things back on track seem to set your partner off or push them away.

I meet clients with an emphasis on a safe, affirming therapeutic relationship as a place to begin healing, change, and empowerment.
I practice from a stance of radical inclusion, meaning I seek to welcome all parts of your experience and identity, even those that may feel shameful. I provide a warm and steady space to explore and uncover what feels true and we move at your pace. I have worked effectively with adults and adolescents who are healing from traumatic experiences, including interpersonal violence and abuse, sexual violence, adverse childhood experiences, and the impact of identity-based oppressions. I value the innate wisdom that clients bring to their own healing journeys and see you as the most important expert on your own experiences and desires.

Suffering may be a part of the human condition, but you can change your relationship to it.
In these unsettling times, it can be all too easy to revert to the comfort of the familiar. But before you act reflexively, ask yourself whether you can imagine acting reflectively and with intention. Our work together will encourage you to examine your automatic beliefs and default settings and question whether old patterns are serving you well. Experimenting with fresh approaches to challenging situations often leads to surprising new outcomes and allows you to reshape the narrative you carry about yourself, which in turn may shift your relationships with others.

I support individuals & couples navigating, trauma within family of origin, high demand job stress, LGBTQIA concerns, nontraditional relationship support, BIPOC support, sexual health, life transitions.
Therapy, we all have been given different messages (good & bad) about what it “means” to utilize it. In case no one has told you lately, seeking therapy does not mean something is wrong with you. Rather you are new to therapy and wondering what to discuss in session or have intermittently done therapy, I work to ensure my clients therapeutic journey is catered to meet their wants and needs.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
