I believe that a compassionate and safe therapeutic space should be available and accessible to all parents and parents-to-be. While the family-building journey can be full of joy, it also includes losses big and small. Whether you're navigating
pregnancy
loss or infertility, healing from a traumatic
pregnancy
or birth, making sense of
perinatal
anxiety, experiencing identity changes, or working to be a more present and gentle parent, my goal is to help you follow your intuition to feel confident and connected to yourself and your family.

I have particular expertise supporting other therapists, and people navigating
prenatal
and
postpartum
life.
I believe in the power of therapy to awaken your innate capacity for healing and transformation. With this aim, I will guide you in navigating difficult life transitions and current and past relationship challenges; in mending past trauma(s), and in coming to know your core self. With gentle and empathic presence, I support you in developing tools to cope with your symptoms, and over time, to explore and repair their roots. I practice from a body-centered and relational approach, attuning to and facilitating interconnections between mind, body, and emotion with my clients.

In addition to specializing in anxiety/OCD, I treat
prenatal
and

anxiety and depression.
Your mind is constantly racing, flooding you with worry. You don't even know where the thoughts come from, but they can be upsetting. You try to control or ignore them, but they come right back. You're stressing out the people around you. Why does life seem so easy for other people? You're tired of people telling you to "just relax" and that "it will be okay." Nothing you do seems to work and you've never felt so discouraged. You are afraid that this anxiety will never go away, especially if it is new to you. You want to be at ease--to feel like you're actually engaged in your life, not distracted and struggling through it.

No one is fully prepared for what it means to become a parent. Having a child is one of the most primal, natural things that human beings are designed to do, yet too often it is a time riddled with fear. Whether struggling with conception, coping with all of the "what-if's" of
pregnancy
, making sense of a difficult labor, navigating relationship dynamics, or managing the daily tasks of parenthood, it is important to feel supported along your journey.

Based on Rebecca’s own experiences with infertility, IVF and
prenatal
loss, Rebecca has become driven to provide empathetic, mind-body, trauma informed care to women and couples dealing with issues of infertility,
miscarriage
& infant loss, birth trauma,
perinatal
mood/anxiety disorders and relationship issues facing couples during the journey to parenthood.
The journey to parenthood can be a scary and isolating time. Societal norms of keeping
pregnancy
related concerns private along with limited access to maternal health services and social support networks all contribute to an increase of anxiety and depression during the
perinatal
time period. Rebecca recognizes that Matrescence, defined as the journey to becoming a mother, often begins years before birth when individuals and couples start the contemplation and planning process of trying to conceive and lasts through birth and the post-partum period.

We all have challenges; sometimes our attempts to solve them on our own aren’t getting the results we’d hoped for. At times like these, it can seem as if we’ve lost our way, and we feel stuck, stressed and alone. Coming from a strengths-based, client-centered perspective, I use a variety of techniques including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and coaching. **Teletherapy Option Available** The decision to come to therapy typically arises when we reach a point where we say "I can't do this alone." The "this" could be anything; maybe you are experiencing significant stressors at work or in your relationship; perhaps you've had years of trying to manage symptoms of trauma, depression or anxiety alone, and you're tired; it could be that your relationship or family has gone through a major change, and you are struggling to adjust. Whatever the issue is, I am happy that you have acknowledged that support is needed, and in that acknowledgment you are on your way to progress already.

Beneath all of our disappointments, losses, and heartbreaks, we all want to be valued for who we are, accepted for how we feel, and respected for what we think. I will encourage you to cultivate present moment awareness and self-compassion for the painful difficulties, challenging life circumstances, and to the inner narrative that keeps you stuck in habitual patterns of reacting. While fear and doubt may obscure your perspective, we will work together to help you develop strength-based skills and capacities for moving through challenges. I will help you access your inner wisdom for cultivating trust, balance, clarity, & connection.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists
What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
