I offer therapy to adults, particularly individuals who are struggling with life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges or identity issues.
As a queer, Latinx cisgender man, it is my passion to support my LGBTQIA+ and POC community in our own collective liberation. Too often counseling can feel like a non-inclusive space, and my work has focused on providing a healing space where clients feel comfortable being their genuine selves, free from judgment and guilt. Sometimes it feels like many of us move through our day wearing a mask to “fit in,” which is a heavy burden to bear. Together we can work towards removing this mask by helping you tap into what already lies within you - a bit of authenticity, a splash of self-compassion, and a healthy dose of empowerment.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy has the capacity to change us deeply. But it can also be subtle: allowing for a sense of "staying the same while changing," as we hold onto the parts of ourselves we value, while better understanding those parts that may be getting in the way. I work from the belief that meaningful and lasting change occurs in the context of relationships - including the relationship between therapist and patient. People come to me with painful relationships, difficult family dynamics, uncomfortable mood or anxiety symptoms, a general feeling that something isn't right, or the desire to simply know themselves better.

I look forward to speaking with you and becoming a partner in your journey to wellness, healing, and ultimately freedom.
*Not accepting new patients at this time.* Since I was a child, I always knew that I was called to be in the helping field. I followed my passion and began teaching 10 years ago after graduating from Hampton University. While teaching, I earned my master's degree from Johns Hopkins University in Counseling. After years of teaching, leading an education department, and School Counseling, I transitioned into my role as a Mental Health Therapist.

Through a collaborative, affirming and genuine relationship , we can begin to (re)discover your passions, strengths and goals together, liberating you from the daily challenges and struggles that you may face intra- and interpersonally.
While therapy is meant to foster growth and personal reflection, I strongly believe that therapy should also cultivate exploration, creativity, curiosity and a sense of empowerment. As a queer woman of color, I cherish environments that affirm and celebrate who I am in all of my complexities. I treasure relationships where I do not have to explain myself or my experiences. Unfortunately, these environments and these relationships can be hard to find, making us feel a pressure to deny parts of ourselves in order to be accepted or seen by others.

I believe in the power of therapy to awaken your innate capacity for healing and transformation. With this aim, I will guide you in navigating difficult life transitions and current and past relationship challenges; in mending past trauma(s), and in coming to know your core self. With gentle and empathic presence, I support you in developing tools to cope with your symptoms, and over time, to explore and repair their roots. I practice from a body-centered and relational approach, attuning to and facilitating interconnections between mind, body, and emotion with my clients.

The therapeutic relationship is a safe space for exploring, understanding and addressing problems.
When looking for a therapist, a person or couple may be unsure of how therapy can help them. Therapy can help people learn how to respond more effectively to the challenges of work, relationships, and life. The aim is for clients to improve relationships, achieve their goals, and attain emotional well-being and happiness.

Hi there. I've lived in Maryland since 2012, and I am a fully licensed therapist. I really enjoy the work that I do, and it is my hope to meet my clients exactly where they are. I utilize a cognitive-behavioral and strength-based approach with my clients. I have worked clinically with depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and I specialize in working with relationship stressors. Whether it's the heavy expectation we might place on ourselves or perhaps a specific relational concern, my hope is to be alongside you in a totally non-judgmental environment.

I find gratification in helping people to find what works for them in this complex world. I work with individuals, couples and families dealing with depression, trauma related issues, eating disorders. I also work with adolescents and young adults and their families. I use what I learn from teaching as adjunct faculty at the School of Social Work, presenting continuing education programs and supervising clinicians. I believe that people are adaptive and resilient and often have more strength than they know about. I love my work and I am reliable, dependable and easy to reach when needed.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
