Hey Hey! I see you. You’re high-achieving, deeply committed, and holding it down for everyone else—but inside, you're tired of being tired. You move through corporate, academic, or political spaces where you’ve learned to shrink, code-switch, or smile through it. You’ve done the therapy, the journals, the workshops—but you’re still carrying so much. You want a space where you don’t have to perform. A space to bring your full self—faith, rage, lineage, softness, grief—and actually feel again, without fear. You’re ready to go deeper. Let’s do it!

Understanding who you are or what you are feeling is difficult when you are not even sure what words to use to describe your experience or what questions to ask yourself. Naming that is a big step. You may put on a mask to navigate the world in order to reduce the pressures you feel from society. High expectations when you were younger may make mistakes seem unacceptable. The journey to explore who you are may seem lonely. You may notice similarities in the relationships you form now with the relationship you have with your family. The early traumas in your life may be triggering you now in ways that are frustrating and upsetting.

New client slots for ongoing therapy, Queer & Neurodivergent group openings, and letters of support for gender affirming surgery will re-open in the end of summer 2025. Sometimes, core parts of who we are fall outside of what is considered normal or acceptable. It can feel impossible to understand yourself. You might feel invisible or wonder if you’re really the problem. You know that hiding these parts of yourself doesn’t feel right and isn’t sustainable. At the same time, you question whether it’s worth all the pain that might come from fully exploring and expressing yourself.

Many of my clients come to therapy seeking healthier ways to communicate with others and address their own issues with self regulation. Often times they need to understand how to "connect the dots", between their present state of functioning and unresolved issues from past hurts, traumas, and patterns of behavior.

Life comes in waves. We all have our stressful moments and difficult situations but, at times, our ability to ride the waves falters. Maybe you are noticing that you haven’t been feeling your best recently or even for a long time now. You may be noticing your relationships with others beginning to become strained. Or you may have lost someone important in your life and found yourself struggling to cope. Sometimes it might feel as though you’re alone with your struggles or that people do not truly see you.

Hi, my name is Call, and I am a culturally sensitive, contextually mindful therapist. I understand that we often know what we want and may even have a sense of how to achieve it. However, when we're feeling vulnerable, we become our own biggest obstacle. In our work together, we will explore new ways of approaching your pain, so that you can break free from unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. I believe in balancing seriousness with playfulness, structure with flexibility, and my knowledge with your expertise of yourself.

All people need to feel safe, connected and capable. When something interferes with our ability to get these needs met in a healthy way, we develop alternative solutions or avoidance strategies that may help in the short-term but cause harm in the long run. I provide a safe space for people to explore and process difficult experiences and the self-defeating beliefs and over-adaptive behaviors that may have developed in response. I have a genuine interest in others and bring warmth, authenticity, and a non-judgmental presence to sessions to help you get unstuck and to walk with you on your journey of healing and transformation.

Many of us struggle with responding in over-learned, automatic ways to the challenges we face, even when the ways we automatically respond are ultimately self-defeating, if not downright self-destructive. Are you feeling stuck? Do you keep doing the same thing, even though you “know” better? Do you keep finding yourself in similarly disappointing relationships? I believe in every person’s capacity to achieve wellness and meaning, no matter how dark things seem in this moment. If you're seeking a deeply caring, sensitive, and validating relationship with a therapist who is willing to challenge you to be your best self, let's chat!

Hello! My name is Alex (they/them). I am a helper and trained counselor welcoming clients who have specifically been ostracized or misunderstood by the mental health industrial complex. Currently, institutional services geared towards helping are explicitly gate kept by ableist perspectives, carceral state interventions, financial inaccessibility, treatment stigma, and other barriers rooted in the shameful, foundational practices of white supremacy and western culture. My work is specifically political, and intended to help clients cultivate a more liberated life. I curate space for healing as well as dream building.

Do you feel like life is spiraling out of control? Are you constantly giving to everyone else while feeling alone when you need support? Do you struggle to say “no,” only to resent saying “yes”? Maybe you’ve put everyone else first, leaving little time for yourself or your dreams. Or perhaps you feel stuck, giving so much but not seeing the progress you deserve. Balancing parenthood, relationships, careers, and life’s challenges can be overwhelming, leaving you feeling anxious, depressed, or just stuck in place.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Harwood, Baltimore?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
