Life can be stressful and anxiety-provoking enough without adding the challenges and complications of living and career transitions, loss and grief, betrayal, childhood trauma, ADHD and depression, parenting and relationship struggles, insomnia , medical issues or other concerns it can throw our way. Asking for help can be hard, and it also can be the single most important thing you can do to face your struggles head on and start viewing them from a different perspective. My clients are often looking for a safe, open space where they can share their thoughts and worries and know they will be met with understanding, empathy & support

I am a licensed psychologist who helps people struggling with difficult issues like anxiety disorders, OCD, chronic insomnia , and panic attacks. I love working with people who have been told their OCD and anxiety symptoms are "difficult to treat" or for whom therapy has not been effective in the past. Because different types of therapy work better for different people, I use cognitive, behavioral, and person-centered approaches to healing. I strongly believe therapy should always be about improving your life however you want to live it – never about what a therapist believes would be best for you.

I am a strong believer in therapy being a collaborative, healing, and restorative experience. As Pema Chödrön once said, “Let difficulty transform you. And it will. In my experience, we just need help in learning how to not run away.” But that’s easier said than done – what are the steps to getting to a better place? Where do you even start? You are not alone in this journey. I take great pride in building a therapeutic connection and a safe space for you to be your genuine self so that you may find that resiliency within.

"Fear lives in the head. And courage lives in the heart. The job is to get from one to the other" - Louis Penny. It is inevitable that we will be wounded during the journey of life. Many of those wounds generally heal on their own. However some wounds cut deeper. They are unable to heal themselves and leave scars causing broken relationships, anxiety, addiction, insecurity, fear, and pain. Facing these wounds can be frightening and overwhelming, especially when facing them alone. Together we find the courage and strength to face and heal these wounds.

Welcome to counseling! I’m glad you are here. My goal is to meet you where you are and serve as an ally in your therapy journey. A typical session with me is collaborative, psychoeducational, and constructive with a healthy dose of humor. I help clients develop insight into old patterns that may have helped them in the past but are no longer serving them in the present. I support clients as they accept what is, identify alternative pathways, and commit to change. Informed by the trauma response, I teach my clients skills to regulate their nervous system and catalyze their brain’s natural neuroplasticity.

In my practice, I work successfully with people suffering from depression and anxiety, grappling with life changes and decisions, and struggling in important relationships. My orientation strives to deepen insight and self-knowledge, identify entrenched and sometimes destructive patterns in life, draw on your inner strengths, and move towards greater fulfillment in yourself and your relationships. See my website for much more information about my background, experience, and orientation to therapy. There I also offer suggestions for how to go about finding a good therapist who is both skilled and a fit for you.

I am a board certified psychotherapist/psychiatric clinical nurse specialist with over 30 years providing individual psychotherapy to adults.I believe in a collaborative approach in which client and therapist identify stressors and explore alternative approaches to enhance coping skills and achieve emotional well being. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the foundation of my practice-however an eclectic approach is often indicated and is dependent upon the needs of the individual and the treatment goals identified at the onset of therapy

Loving well and living fully - learning to live with changes in our lives with grace, wisdom and compassion - is what most of us wish for. And yet, the struggles of everyday life leave many of us feeling fearful, worried or sad and sometimes disconnected or alone. One valuable way to discover how to draw on your natural resilience to meet the challenges of life is to participate in psychotherapy. Therapy is an active partnership - where both people are listening and exploring, investigating and discovering those parts of your life that are causing suffering and difficulties - and then finding the ways to heal those places.

My ideal client is anyone who is seeking to make positive changes in their life. I am an active therapist who collaborates with my clients. I believe in research about "what works". I also believe it is my job as a therapist to adapt my approach based on the needs of each client. Given my extensive background in couples, family and parenting work, I bring a wholistic approach to working with my individual clients. I am compassionate, hard working, and determined to help you assess the root causes because I believe a good understanding of the problem leads to a good understanding of the solution!

My years of experience and training have taught me the importance of good listening. By learning who you are and what you want in your life, I am best able to help you restore or enhance the quality of life you seek. I limit my practice to adults in individual therapy or relationship counseling. While there is no magic in therapy, there is an opportunity to feel better now, avoid future emotional pitfalls and be better able to deal with those that cannot be avoided. As a compassionate and experienced professional, I look forward to assisting you.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
