I understand the importance of building a trusted relationship and work with each client to develop an individual plan that meets their goals whether it be learning to manage their
grief
, navigating a life transition, facing a diagnosis, improving their relationships or building self esteem.
While a person can feel better after a good talk with a friend or relative, for moderate or severe distress, this relief is only temporary. At those times, it is beneficial to talk with a trained counselor who listens and interacts in a way to get to the very root for your emotional concerns. I offer my clients an opportunity to face their difficulties confidently and constructively; freeing them to enjoy all the good things life has to offer.

Relationship conflict, issues of
grief
,
loss
, trauma and abuse are specialties.
I believe that people come into therapy because they find themselves stuck and unable to move forward in their relationships, careers, or personal pursuits. Oftentimes we get stuck because the things we did to get through difficult times in our lives stop working -- or worse, make our lives more difficult. Maybe you have found that you are unable to access the full range of emotions, experiences and relationships that life should encompass and now it's time to become the best and truest version of yourself that you can be. I hope I can help you do just that.

We have been assisting clients in discovering and understanding where they want to be in life by helping identify behaviors and patterns that may help them improve, and adapting new behaviors which can help them overcome challenges. In order to make therapy successful, we take an approach based mainly in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which assesses behavior, readiness for change and working towards that goal. If you are looking for growth in self-confidence, overcoming symptoms of trauma, dealing with
grief
, managing anxiety and/or depression & controlling impulses, we would like to help walk beside you in your journey.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
