Limited slots for weekly/biweekly sessions. Many of us struggle to manage many of life's challenges on top of feeling fear, frustration, or deep sadness. That being said, you've already taken an important first step in connecting with help! I've seen clients who experience anxiety, depression, bipolar, personality disorders, trauma, grief, life changes, anger, and interpersonal issues. My goal is to help you feel comfortable managing whatever symptoms you may be experiencing while embracing wellness and change. I am a culturally sensitive, LGBTQIA + affirming therapist.

My specialties are with adolescents and young adults, queer -identifying individuals, and phobias.
Seeking out therapy can be a scary process, and despite this, you are taking your first step toward growth. You may be struggling with anxious thoughts, depressive mood, or unhealthy behaviors. You might lack support from others or you are tired of living in fear. Whatever the case may be, you are also wishing to grow and heal as a person.

We are LGBTQ + allied, sex positive, kink-friendly and nurturing to all clients.
My name is Sierra Coleman, and helping people is my calling. I feel lucky to be able to call myself a therapist as it’s my passion. I believe that each client has their own unique set of challenges and responds in their own way to different interventions, therefore my orientation is deeply person centered with an emphasis on experiential therapy. I believe that problems are interwoven parts of the whole person (mind, body, environment, and the interpersonal) and see counseling as a collaborative process to empower my clients.

I have experience with LGBTQIA + clients of all ages.
I am a licensed psychologist who helps people struggling with difficult issues like anxiety disorders, OCD, chronic insomnia, and panic attacks. I love working with people who have been told their OCD and anxiety symptoms are "difficult to treat" or for whom therapy has not been effective in the past. Because different types of therapy work better for different people, I use cognitive, behavioral, and person-centered approaches to healing. I strongly believe therapy should always be about improving your life however you want to live it – never about what a therapist believes would be best for you.

I am queer allied and gender affirming.
I know that a lot of these profiles look the same, so I’ll skip the things that everyone says. Here’s the truth: I can’t help you on my own. Therapy takes teamwork. I will listen to you, I will validate you, and I will give you tools. The choice is yours of whether you pick them up and use them. I have been providing therapy in a variety of settings for over the past 15 years- community mental health, residential facilities, military clinics, and via telehealth. I have seen a broad range of issues- anxiety, mood disorders, PTSD, life changes, postpartum struggles, family violence, struggles with identity, and many more.

Over the past year and a half I have been passionate about increasing my competency in providing affirming care to the LGBTQ community by receiving training, education and supervision from experts and colleagues in the field.
I can see your strength, even when you cannot. I use my education and experience in psychology to lead you to discover your most authentic self. I believe that we all develop patterns of behaviors due to our life circumstances that can be both positive and negative. By examining these patterns in behavior and thought and how they serve us, one can make changes to improve life. I am an action-oriented therapist who believes therapy should not end as soon as you leave the office. I will often give techniques to practice or topics for further reflection.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
