I view therapy as providing a safe, comfortable environment where a client is invited to share their journey through healing. As the therapist, I walk alongside you in trust to provide insight and guidance. I believe the client is truly the expert on his/her own needs and desires. It is my role as the therapist to bring these needs and desires to light. From there, I work with the client to evaluate the best ways to bring about change in their lives and how to practically implement those changes. This healing process empowers clients as they discover strengths and a deeper sense of peace.

I have a special interest in empowering
women
and children.
I utilize a wholistic approach to psychotherapy. I am interested in helping families heal from disagreement, emotional pain, trauma, loss and change through the use of individual, couples, family, and group therapy. I believe that each one of us has a strong inner voice that we need to find and connect with in order to be well. When difficult feelings surface, our energy or connection to ourselves and others can become weakened and we feel drained or blocked from living to our fullest potential. I am eclectic in my approach. I seek to assist clients to understand their true potential.

Is life kicking your ass? Motherhood have you burnt out? Have you been neglecting yourself to take care of those around you? Are you going through a major life change such as a breakup/divorce, career change, starting or growing your family, becoming an empty nester and having trouble adjusting? Do you constantly feel worried, on edge, nervous or anxious and don't know how to change it? Do you struggle to set boundaries and say no? The daily grind on life can take a toll and can keep us down if we let it. If you find yourself answering yes to these questions, it may be time for you to let someone help you find a different way.

I always provide input to patients and encourage interaction with the goal of solving problems. I work with adults of all ages and adolescents. I have enjoyed many successful treatment outcomes.

Do you feel like no one gets it? Better yet, no one gets YOU, not even yourself? Do you find yourself in the same cycles of bad habits, relationships, negative thoughts, personal crisis and just feel like the proverbial hamster on a wheel? Are you sick of the sound of your own voice saying you want things to change but they never do? Do you feel misunderstood and frustrated and maybe you're not sure what else to do or where else to turn? Do you feel like you've fallen into your life rather than created it? Maybe you feel like you want to change and don't know where to start? Do you want to feel seen, heard, healed, and hopeful?

My goal at New Directions, a Clinical Psychology practice, is to assist individuals, couples, families and other groups. Issues may result from many situations, including the challenges of marriage, parenting, friendships, the workplace and others. Or, the challenge may be from being alone. The common thread for many individuals is a wish for "new directions" in life. I make every effort to work towards finding solutions. As a Clinical Psychologist in practice for over 40 years, my belief is that the decision made by individuals to seek psychological treatment is an important step in moving forward towards new directions in life.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
