I serve on the faculty of a
Family
Medicine Residency Program where I teach physicians the importance of establishing an empathic relationship with their patients; the value of effective communication; and the need to include the patient in the decision-making involved in their medical care.
My years of experience and training have taught me the importance of good listening. By learning who you are and what you want in your life, I am best able to help you restore or enhance the quality of life you seek. I limit my practice to adults in individual therapy or relationship counseling. While there is no magic in therapy, there is an opportunity to feel better now, avoid future emotional pitfalls and be better able to deal with those that cannot be avoided. As a compassionate and experienced professional, I look forward to assisting you.

My practice is built on teaching and supporting people who want to; reduce and manage their stress-worry-anxiety, improve their mood to move toward their authentically happier selves, improve their relationships with
family
-friends-co-workers, are going through life transitions and want to use it to be better aligned with where they want to be in their life, manage the flood of events in the world that are impacting their thoughts and feelings, people who are hard workers and care for others but then find it difficult to have time left over for their own self-care on a regular basis.

As a fellow parent, I understand that there is no greater pleasure than to see your child happy and healthy. But excessive worrying, relentlessly demanding OCD rituals, the fear of vomiting, social anxiety, and self-harming behaviors like hair pulling and skin picking can rip away the joy of childhood and bring anguish to the
family
. I am a warm, compassionate, and very active cognitive-behavioral therapist with many years of success in helping children and teens recover from these challenges. I work as a team with parents, including them in at least part of every session.

The investment you make in learning couples dialogue will also carry over into
family
and work relationships.
I bring a wide range of life experiences as well as a significant depth of education in Imago Relationship theory to the couples I counsel. I promote and respect each partner's individual worldview. My hope is that my couples celebrate the differences that each partner brings to their union. I facilitate a dialogue process that can be incorporated into the couple's relationship toolbox. In trusting the process of dialogue, I find that the couple shifts from distance to connection when they learn the "real story" as to why their partner's behavior or reactive energy occurs.

Exhausted, sad, angry or overwhelmed? When in the throes of negative feelings, it’s often easy to forget that they serve as signposts for boundary violations or unmet needs. Just as hunger, cold and other uncomfortable sensations shift to a sense of comfort or satisfaction when the need is met, emotional distress likewise transitions to a sense of fullness, wholeness or connectedness whenever the needs which underlie it are met.

I understand that life does not always go as planned and though it can bring great happiness, it can also bring trials that make it difficult to fully enjoy what life has to offer. With therapy, my main goal is to compassionately and nonjudgmentally guide individuals on how to cope more effectively with the stressors of life in order to improve daily functioning and overall quality of living. I have experience working with adults and adolescents suffering from eating disorders and co-occurring diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, personality disorders, and other related mood/anxiety disorders.

While offering solely virtual therapy, I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches, such as Experiential
Family Therapy
, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, as well as encompassing Attachment Theory.
Finding happiness within ourselves and our relationships may seem unattainable at times. We are often faced with painful thoughts, emotions and behaviors that intercede, leaving us feeling disconnected and alone. My therapeutic approach allows clients to feel safe in order to explore these painful emotions and gain an understanding in how they affect client's self-worth and interpersonal relationships.

In working with youth and families in different capacities I have come to help youth and families and couples work through the pain of the past specifically dealing with divorce, ADHD,
family
dynamics and dysfunction, depression and anxiety.
In life there are many awesome and beautiful things to see and do, but there are also many challenges and pain in life. As I have worked with youth and families for over 15 years, I have come to understand that deep down everyone wants to thrive through being loved and to love others, but that often hurt and pain from our younger days place us in a position of just surviving. My hope is to help youth, families and couples to heal from these wounds to move toward thriving.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
