Hello, and thank you for visiting this page. In my practice, I work primarily with adolescents and young adults struggling with
eating disorders
, body image issues and self esteem concerns. I have a strong understanding of the relationship between trauma and body image, and I work delicately with my clients to help recognize these connections to facilitate healing. My experience comes from years working on an
eating disorders
inpatient unit, day hospital and IOP. Art Therapy can be beneficial for those who struggle to express themselves verbally and is a popular modality in the treatment of PTSD and

It is my role as the therapist to bring these needs and desires to light. From there, I work with the client to evaluate the best ways to bring about change in their lives and how to practically implement those changes. If something doesn't feel quite right in your life, in how you're handling important relationships, how you're coping with feelings, or how you're progressing with goals; if you feel there are parts of yourself you don't fully understand, and you ready for this to change, then we'll be a good match. I believe psychotherapy requires working together to build understanding and accomplish change. For this, a strong patient-therapist relationship is essential; I am active, involved, responsive, open and communicative. Patients feel they know me, and they experience me as committed to knowing them.

My background includes helping with
eating disorders
, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss.
I utilize an array of approaches and offer tools that can help address current concerns. Additionally, this allows for us to explore the roots of life's challenges. I see our relationship as a dyad of mutual trust that serves as the vessel for our work. Using an attachment framework, informed by my fellowship at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy + Psychoanalysis (ICP+P), I hope to bring a sense of safety, connection, compassion, and acceptance. At your pace, we can direct our focus to integrate mind-body techniques. This is to offer relief and learn more about yourself.

Are you intellectually curious about personal growth? Let "change" be an intriguing adventure rather than an anxiety-producing threat. In your life experiences what has and hasn't worked for you? Triggers, symptoms of distress can become new ways of understanding what in your life needs a new focus. Knowing oneself more fully and making conscious choices equals more personal meaning. A great therapy experience involves jointly developing a trustworthy exploration of how feelings, thoughts, behaviors and interactions help or hurt your pursuit of a contented life with less self-doubt, fear of the unknown and personally determined lifelong growth.

Sometimes even the smartest and most capable women I know feel stuck. It could be moving beyond an issue in a relationship, anxiety, perfectionism or it could be an eating disorder or traumatic memory. You may feel like you are underperforming in life and relationships or just completely overwhelmed with everything going on. When we do not have the social support we need or just not sure how to use our social support, it can be helpful to talk to a professional and get objective feedback. To be asked thought provoking questions. To get ideas with how to move forward and start thriving in life!

Eating Disorders Therapists
What happens in therapy for eating disorders?
In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.
What therapy types help with eating disorders?
Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.
What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?
The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.
What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?
Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.
How long does therapy last for eating disorders?
Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
