My trauma-informed theoretical orientation is grounded in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, which focuses on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Welcome to counseling! I’m glad you are here. My goal is to meet you where you are and serve as an ally in your therapy journey. A typical session with me is collaborative, psychoeducational, and constructive with a healthy dose of humor. I help clients develop insight into old patterns that may have helped them in the past but are no longer serving them in the present. I support clients as they accept what is, identify alternative pathways, and commit to change. Informed by the trauma response, I teach my clients skills to regulate their nervous system and catalyze their brain’s natural neuroplasticity.

I work primarily within a contemporary psychodynamic framework while also using cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies.
Hello and Welcome! Relationships are key to understanding who we are. From birth to the present, our past relationships affect our current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. At some point in life, most of us encounter personal roadblocks that create stress and unhappiness, overwhelm our coping mechanisms and undermine growth. Psychotherapy is a resource to help people heal, learn new skills, and develop greater self-awareness and strength. I offer clinical expertise to provide guidance, new perspectives, and to raise awareness of root issues that may be behind current problems. Together we will address these problems and underlying dynamics.

I use a holistic, client-centered approach and, depending on where you are in your journey/what your goals are, I incorporate skills from CBT, Mindfulness, IFS, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and use a DBT lens.
When you’re going through a challenging time and are looking to experience change, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed by everything you “should” be doing to achieve your goals. I strongly believe that “small hinges swing big doors”. Change happens incrementally, not overnight. I enjoy supporting adolescents & adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, people-pleasing tendencies, life transitions, stress-management, and emotional dysregulation.

I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and other modalities.
Managing the stressors that life throws at us can be challenging! The path through life is rarely smooth, and we all navigate the terrain in our own, unique ways. Often, we have the tools to manage the obstacles on our own; other times, that path is wide enough to allow support from others as we move forward. Still other times, we can’t even find the path! I strive to promote an environment in which clients feel safe to share experiences at their own pace and without judgment. I believe that a genuine approach, supported by evidenced-based treatment models, cultivates the rapport necessary to promote positive change.

My main goal is to help individuals eventually become their own therapists after preparing them with the skills and strategies I employ in session: DBT , CBT, and mindfulness practices.
Are you struggling with anxiety, ADHD, ASD, bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia or another diagnosis? I recognize that therapy can be challenging, I place a high value on creating a welcoming atmosphere that promotes growth and makes you feel comfortable as we navigate life's stressors together no matter the diagnosis. If you are motivated to make positive changes in your life, I will use mindfulness based strategies to guide you in the path toward affirmative change.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
