Do you feel like an imposter? Does it feel like everyone else got a rulebook that you didn't? Are you trying to overcome the effects of trauma, whether from a major life event, or from many smaller things throughout your life that have eaten away at your self-esteem? I'm guessing that you have many negative beliefs about yourself that you know, logically, aren't true. It's really hard to turn that logic into true belief about your worth as a human being, though. I can help you to go from just knowing in your head that you're worthy of love and a fulfilling life to truly believing it deep down. That makes a huge difference!

Finding happiness within ourselves and our relationships may seem unattainable at times. We are often faced with painful thoughts, emotions and behaviors that intercede, leaving us feeling disconnected and alone. My therapeutic approach allows clients to feel safe in order to explore these painful emotions and gain an understanding in how they affect client's self-worth and interpersonal relationships.

During my 26 years in the social work profession, I have had an array of experiences that have focused on crisis work with families, and individuals experiencing: trauma, loss, depression, grief, anxiety, low self-esteem, housing & employment issues, and family challenges. In my more recent practice years, I have enjoyed working with the LGBTQ community as a straight ally, and advocating for equal rights and fair treatment for all. I am also certified as a divorce mediator, and I provide clinical supervision to graduate level social work professionals seeking their LCSW-C licensure.

Infidelity, Sex addiction, Compulsive Porn use and other compulsive sexual behaviors can wreak havoc on ones own life, and leave a wake of pain, betrayal and trauma in the lives of those who are connected with them. If you are a man or woman who relates to this chaos, we are very aware of the shame, pain and confusion you may be feeling. If you are the partner, wife or family member of this individual, we understand the betrayal, trauma, confusion, anger, despair that may be how you are feeling.

Starting therapy can be an intimidating, but life changing decision. My goal is to foster an authentic, individualized, & judgment-free relationship, no matter who you are or where you're at in life. Whether you are brand new to therapy, or have been in therapy for years & need something new, I'm here to support you from session one. When working together, I'll combine traditional talk therapy with an integrated health approach. What this means is, as we explore what brings you in each week, we'll also talk about ALL aspects of your health like quality of sleep, chronic pain, work life, finances, & all things that affect wellbeing.

"There is the inside , there is the outside and then there is the bridge between the two." I work extensively with PTSD, addiction and trauma recovery. I have over 25 years of experience with EMDR. Panic attacks, addictions, nightmares and social phobia are also a large part of the work I do. I utilize emdr because talk therapy sometimes simply doesn't work.

My role as a counselor is to provide an environment of safety, trust and mutual respect with the individuals that I work with. I believe that the relationship between the counselor and the individual seeking help is the most important aspect that lends to healing.

Alcohol Use Therapists
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
