As a counselor, I work to provide interventions which not only alleviate immediate symptoms such as sadness, grief or anxiety, but also to facilitate greater self-understanding. I believe that counseling is an investment that can enhance your quality of life by helping you to develop a "tool box" of strategies to deal with challenges, improve self-esteem, find ways to get your needs met and develop skills to create healthier relationships.

I love working with teens and adults who find themselves struggling with anxiety, OCD and trauma-related issues.
I'd describe myself as being a genuine and warm therapist who can still be direct and challenge you when necessary. I like to take a creative approach to your treatment goals, incorporating bits and pieces of things I think may be helpful, but I let my clients guide sessions as much as possible. If this sounds good, reach out to see if I'd be a good fit.

Are you mentally exhausted from obsessions, compulsions, or perfectionism that keep you from enjoying life?
Anxiety and OCD are often misunderstood, but these are the areas I specialize in and want to help you understand it too, then get right down to business with treating it! I’m trained in the “gold standard” therapy method for OCD, which is Exposure & Response Prevention. OCD is not something you can “just stop”! ERP is hard work but highly effective.

She's stopped talking to you. She's alive but feels dead in your life, she is your mom and you are living with ambiguous loss. You hear about her and maybe sometimes you hear from her. It's really complicated, confusing and painful. As a woman who leads and has done therapy, coaching, self-help, you still feel a familiar struggle inside. You're accomplished, self-aware, yet you rehash the past constantly, and it's draining the light in you. Something keeps happening in your relationships with other women. This pull to distrust, to please, to brace for disappointment is part of losing that maternal support and becoming unmothered.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
