In my 10 years of practice as a psychotherapist, I have worked with people facing many struggles, including surviving past trauma and abuse, feeling suicidal, and severe/chronic mental illness. As a member of the LGBTQ community, I have worked with many people who identify as LGBTQ, and have supported people through coming out, gender transition, and accessing gender-affirming health care. As a white therapist, when working with BIPOC clients, I use the frameworks of anti-racism and cultural humility, and strive to make space for exploring the impacts of racism and racial differences.
We all have parts of ourselves that we don't understand. Coming to therapy is an opportunity to discover new parts of our thoughts, feelings, and experiences. The process of therapy is full of surprises, and hope. No matter how much you may be struggling now, the power of a healing therapeutic relationship can bring relief, recovery, and change.
My goal, starting in the first session, is for you to have the experience of being deeply heard. This becomes the foundation for further exploration, which may include current symptoms, relationship difficulties, past traumas or stressors, discrimination, childhood memories, and family of origin experiences.
