Matthew P Siegel
Psychologist, PhD
Location
I am a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. I have been providing psychotherapy in my private practice for the past several years. Prior to that, I worked and trained in clinical settings within local hospitals. Given my professional background and interests, I typically provide individual therapy and couple counseling for adults as well as family therapy for youth. My clients tend to be competent, intelligent, and motivated to engage in therapy. Although oftentimes individuals see me for long-term therapy, I am flexible enough to work collaboratively on short-term objectives.
I am interested in a few different areas, including the following. Employment-related difficulties that require therapy versus coaching. Family therapy for children and adolescents versus individual therapy for youth that involves only occasional contact with the parent(s). Multicultural issues such as racial identity, sexual orientation, and social class.
Although my training involved providing different kinds of therapy, the research part of my Ph.D. focused on emotions and racial identity in White Americans. A timely topic it turns out. Also, because I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (Morocco), I enjoy helping U.S. and foreign ex-pats.
