Therapy takes courage. Every time a client walks in my door whether it's for an initial consultation or after a year of weekly sessions, I have great respect for them. My goal is to meet you where you are and help you move in the direction you want to go, providing support and insight along the way. If you are searching for a solution and have the tiniest motivation to change, I commit to helping you increase the quality of your life. By identifying current life stressors and dysfunction, we will explore the impact on your relationship with self and others.

Maybe coming to therapy is an easy, intuitive next step for you. You know and trust yourself to find just the right counselor. You know what you need from therapy to support your relationships, career/life satisfaction, self-care needs, or trauma recovery. I trust your inner wisdom and can’t wait to collaborate with you. Or, maybe you’re more tentative about this whole “therapy” thing. Life may have taught you that trust is precious–that reaching out for support could be dangerous. You may have even gotten the message not to believe in or advocate for yourself. Well, this might be a surprise: I also trust *your* inner wisdom.

Wouldn’t it be helpful if communication in your relationships created closeness rather than distance? You care deeply about the people in your life but are feeling uncertain how to strengthen those relationships. We are often trying to figure out how to improve our lives as we go, and certainly get frustrated when attempts fall short. This frustration can lead to feeling disconnected and unsure what to do differently.

Life is hard and we are not created to do it alone. I believe that therapy is a human interaction first. Connection is key. I am committed to meeting clients where they are and collaborating with them through their therapeutic process. I believe that when we begin to truly accept all parts of ourselves without judgement we can begin to heal. We are complex beings made up of unique stories and experiences. I am a firm believer that you are the expert on yourself. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients to cultivate their own healing.

Change can happen and it can happen quickly if you're willing to put confusing, overwhelming feelings and thoughts under a microscope and dig. I help facilitate the dig by providing you with a supportive environment to stimulate new ways of thinking about your life and identify actions necessary to create better outcomes for yourself.

Discovering and disclosing your identity can be anxiety provoking. I partner with folks to navigate this journey including LGBTQIA+, Transgender, Faith Transitions, and Ex Mormon communities. Perhaps you've had questions about your identity your entire life that you've kept in the back of your mind. Or maybe some article or video just sparked something for you now. Not feeling trans enough? Can't wait to transition? It can feel daunting task to contemplate coming out. It can feel even more rewarding to live in a way that feels free and happy. I can't wait to see you happy and at peace.

Accepting NEW Clients: Online Sessions. Trained as a psychotherapist, I believe Quantum Psychology Life Coaching to be a step beyond traditional psychotherapy to a higher level of functioning! Quantum Psychology Life Coaching is a process of implementing critical thinking into action, by testing hypotheses and applying analytical thinking. Together we develop a working relationship "creating a future", rather than "getting over" the past. Coaching is NOT suitable for SMI clients.

Daily stressors are inevitable, and it is essential to build coping strategies for how to manage stress and combat negative thinking patterns. Creating behavior changes is a focal point of psychotherapy and beneficial in wanting a sense of structure and consistency in one's relationships and overall life. My overall goal for each client is to work on obtaining balance within their own healthy lifestyle. Through obtaining balance one's past and present symptoms can lessen and each individual and/or couple can focus on the positive attributes of their life and move forward towards reaching their goals and the life worth living.

I believe that we all seek love, acceptance, and belonging. When experiences lead us to internalize a shame message that we are not enough, we can develop ways of interacting with the world that, though helpful in the past, are no longer working (or may even be harmful). This can bring on issues related to anxiety, depression, shame and low-self-esteem, feeling out of control of your emotions, and conflicts in your relationships. As overwhelming as life can feel, I truly believe finding freedom and healing is possible and consider it a privilege to support you in this process.

I want you to know that I empathize deeply with your struggle with mental health, whether it is anxiety, depression, trauma and/or addiction. These symptoms can be an overwhelming and isolating experience. I believe that you can take control of your life, in the present and focus on the future, to bear unavoidable suffering and inescapable uncertainty that may affect you now. It is in these darkest moments, with the right attitude, there is potential for meaning and purpose to emerge.

I enjoy working with people who want to grow, and who realize they need to change old ways and patterns that no longer serve them, but instead bring pain. In my practice, I've worked with people in all kinds of pain, and with all kinds of problems. I've helped people struggling with relationship problems, family issues, anxiety, depression, substance use and trauma. Over the 17 years that I've been counseling, I've learned that everyone needs to tell their story, to be heard, and understood. I've learned compassion, kindness, and non-judgement are all important in the healing process.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Phoenix?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
