As a second generation
Asian
American, I appreciate the beauty and challenge of multiple cultures.
Life stress, pressure and uncertainty can be overwhelming, and I’m here to help. In therapy, we can collaborate to develop your strengths, increase awareness of your values and needs, explore your emotions, and clarify your goals. By building a therapeutic relationship of warmth, compassion, and patience, I aim to help you improve your well-being and interpersonal relationships, at your pace. Together we will notice both situational and systemic messages that influence your concerns and work towards increased security and sustainable change. I value authentic communication and invite your feedback throughout the process.

My social location is a second generation
Asian
American rooted in immigrant and working class communities in NYC, Greater Boston, Quincy, and Seattle.
I believe the greatest gift a therapist can offer is full presence with a compassionate ear. Many clients seek therapy because something that was working for them is no longer working. Maybe you feel unheard, unseen, anxious, angry, stuck, or burnt-out. Maybe you have felt this for a long time, but believed you needed permission to feel this way. We all perform the work of care and repair to show up for relationships and our work despite the social and political landscape that shapes how we experience our personal and collective bodies. In our therapy space, even if you take your shoes off at the door, you can bring your whole self.

As an
Asian
-American immigrant, with 8 years of counseling experience, I understand the weight and privilege of hearing a person’s story; the joyous and grief-stricken, the vulnerable and courageous.
If a person’s life could be cataloged into a library of experiences, then therapy could be a dedicated safe lab for crafting its shelf contents. I like to imagine therapy as providing a sort of exploratory space where individuals can go to investigate and learn about themselves. Central to my approach is a focus on body-based awareness and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). Understanding each person holistically allows me to work pragmatically from their frame of mind. I offer guidance and support that help individuals actualize aspects about themselves, identify patterns of behavior, and build self-assurance.

I identify as
Asian
American (specifically Korean-American).
You’re a millennial individual or couple and finally ready to explore therapy. I help you articulate what’s most important to you: What do you value? How is your life currently reflecting those values and what is getting in the way? I help you better understand yourself, your needs, and how to get those needs met. It is important to me that the space we create is compassionate, open, curious, reflective, and interactive. Common issues that I work on in therapy include life transitions, managing stress/anxiety, building your sense of Self, relationship concerns, and improving communication.

I specialize in supporting adults experiencing trauma, stress and anxiety, and am intimately aware of the particular challenges facing
Asian
Americans, racialized groups, immigrants, and children of immigrants and refugees.
You’re feeling stuck, out of touch with yourself, unfulfilled, and you’re looking for relief and real change. It may appear like you have it all together, but on the inside you feel doubtful, burdened and stressed. Maybe you’re caught between different cultures, struggling with your identity and finding your place in the world. You might be carrying the trauma of your past or family history, and seeing the impacts in your work, relationships, sleep, energy levels, feelings of isolation and sense of self-worth. Even in your free time, you may find it difficult to truly relax and rest, your sense of pleasure and purpose depleted.

Being an
Asian
(Korean) American therapist, I am sensitive to diversity issues.
Everyone has the capacity to reach full potential. When this occurs, one experiences an improved sense of self which creates freedom to make decisions that create and sustain meaningful experience in relationships and work. Life can actually feel like it's starting anew. More often than not, answers to repetitive patterns in unfulfilling relationships and negative feelings about the self can be traced to the past. Once goals have been identified, I work with clients in a supportive and collaborative way so that a constructive and meaningful understanding of one's life, with improved ways of coping, can occur now.

No one can be everything to everyone. Similarly, no therapist can be everything to every client. It is therefore vital for us to find our “fit” amongst what seem to be endless yet confusing options. I come originally from China and I trained with some of the most renowned multicultural psychologists during my Ph.D. career at Columbia University. Since then, I interned and worked as a bilingual therapist at Mt. Sinai-Roosevelt Hospital in NYC, Mt. Sinai-Beth Israel Medical Center in NYC, and Amherst College Counseling Center in Amherst, MA. My own cross-cultural and cross-lingual experiences continue to shape the way I work.

Life gets hard at times with increasing demands and a finite amount of resources. As creatures of habit, we tend to get stuck in what seems like a never-ending cycle. My clients come to me with a desire for REAL change. They may be managing long-standing mental health problems and/or new and chronic medical conditions. They also seek to improve their relationships and find out what makes their life worth living. In the end, my clients appreciate introspection and understanding the past, but believe that actual concrete change is needed.

How can I find a therapist in Massachusetts?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
