I enjoy helping clients seeking to make changes in their lives to improve their well being, relationships with others & make better choices for healthier lifestyles. Sometimes life brings new challenges, and suddenly you may find yourself confused, anxious & unable to move forward. I have 20+ years experience working with clients with depression, anxiety & life transitions. I am a working mother with two kids including a disabled child, and I am also a cancer survivor. Last year, I lost my father, a Vietnam Veteran, due to complications of Alzheimer’s. I understand loss, panic & the stress of being a working mother.

I also address additional issues including: Anxiety, Bereavement, Spirituality, Life Transitions, Military Families, Relationship Issues, Stress Reduction, Cancer /Medical Treatment.
The Journey Begins Here... I have found, for my patients and myself, that life is a series of adjustments. Some adjustments are small, smooth and easy, and we may even feel grateful for the new direction on our path. Some of these adjustments are overwhelming. They knock us to our knees, and we feel we may never get up again. Most are somewhere in between.... Whatever challenges bring you to seek counsel, rest assured there is help to adjust and navigate the road ahead.

I have over 10 years experience working with cancer patients and their families.
It has long been my view that the first step in healing and working through your issues is feeling understood. Although, there are a number of techniques that we can employ together for growth and change, my first goal is to understand you, your issues, and where you're coming from. Once understanding has progressed, we can adopt a plan that takes you as a whole person into consideration. I believe that different approaches work for different people and don't believe "in a one size fits all" approach to therapy. If this works for you, I look forward to hearing from you.

Some areas of expertise are anxiety, depression, cancer , relationship issues, trauma, and self-esteem.
We all feel stuck at times. Perhaps, it's those persistent unhelpful old patterns we keep repeating. Therapy will provide you the opportunity to gain insight into yourself and adopt skills needed to make the changes to have a better life. My clients describe me as engaging, compassionate and easy to talk to. While validating and empathizing with you, I also offer alternative ways of looking at situations. Sometimes just having someone to listen to you, can bring you tremendous relief. Together we will strategize effective coping skills just for you, that will give you the ability to move through this process called life.

I've worked with addictions, cancer patients and their families, eating disorders, and chronic pain.
I am an interactive therapist, interested in helping clients reduce symptoms of distress, usually anxiety or depression and explore with them the roots of their distress. I find whether it is addiction, eating disorders, chronic pain, or straight forward relationship issues, understanding the "why" as well as the "how" to fix it, helps the problem and symptoms subside. Clients that work with me finish therapy with a greater awareness of themselves which helps them avoid difficulties in the future as well as a host of healthy coping strategies to help get through the rough times ahead.

I have volunteered and worked with women with cancer and with lesbians and gay men who have lost their long-term partner/spouse.
I have a laid-back style and focus on creating safe space. My approach is pretty eclectic. Although my primary work is with the LGBTQ community--I have a strong LGBT and social justice background--it is not exclusive. I enjoy working with people willing to push their boundaries and learn about themselves. I also enjoy working with people exploring all kinds of creativity. I focus on what you see as your strengths. Building on those strengths makes the most sense to me when working with you.

Therapy is NOT a “one size fits all” kind of deal. It can be overwhelming to find a therapist, let alone finding the right therapist to meet your specific needs. I work with individuals & families 10+ specializing in issues relating to trauma (PTSD/CPTSD), transracial/international adoption, cancer diagnoses or chemotherapy treatments, LGBTQ+, and Neurodivergence (ADHD). My clients enter therapy open to change and ready to learn new skills in hopes of striving for personal growth and exploration.

How can I find a therapist in Maryland?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
