In Internal Family Systems (IFS) individual therapy & Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) couple therapy, we recognize these messages as different aspects of our personality, or “parts” of us, who perhaps lead us to experiences of feeling anxious, depressed, or behaving harmfully to ourselves and others.
In IFS however there are no bad parts. Together we become curious about your parts, their positive intent, and what they think would happen if they weren’t there to manage your life. Often these internal managers are there to keep you from feelings of worthlessness, unlovability, shame, and vulnerability. In IFS, our protective parts are truly unsung heroes!
Our compassion for these parts helps them relax, and other qualities like clarity, courage, and confidence are revealed. IFS teaches you how to lead your life from a place of understanding and kindness toward yourself and others, changing the nature of how you feel both internally and in your relationships.
