I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a license to practice in the state of Alabama. I have been providing mental health care for over 15 years. I have gained experience providing care in a psychiatric hospital setting as a mental health behavioral aide and later as a therapist. In the post-secondary education environment, I was employed at Jacksonville State University and the University of Mississippi as a Counselor and the Associate Director of the EAP program.
In the initial session, I share with clients who I am, my counseling approach, and the process of counseling including the side effects. Clients are informed that even though it is a team effort to meet treatment goals, they are responsible for the success of their treatment. My goal is to create a supportive and trusting counseling environment.
I became a therapist because of my family's struggles with mental illness. I watched my mother and sister suffer from symptoms of schizophrenia. I had very little knowledge about mental illness at that time. The helplessness and fear I felt because of my lack of understanding and ability to care for my family prompted me to choose this profession.
