For me it comes down to living POWERFULLY by accepting full responsibility for our lives. In that comes freedom. Freedom from addiction and compulsion. Freedom from self hate. Freedom from toxic relationships. Freedom to "respond" rather than "react". Freedom to live in accordance with our OWN values such that, at the end of the day, we're good with ourselves. I'm inspired by such COURAGE on a regular basis. We've all got "stuff". At some point, the question is, "what're we gonna DO about it?" It's a great privilege to do this work. Note: I am not in a position to provide crisis services.
I've been treating addiction in it's many forms and the friends and family impacted by it for four decades. I especially enjoy working with the loved ones of addicts who, in their courage, discover they've their OWN work to do. Two crucial tools: community and fun!
I'm appreciated for my directness. I do my best to be kind, and sometimes I practice "ruthless compassion". I'm comfortable with discomfort and normalizing what is, after all, simply the "human condition". I believe in the power of risk, in living "the full catastrophe". (Jon Kabat-Zinn).
