My therapy focuses on you and your needs. My job is not to tell you what to do, but to walk alongside you on your journey, making you aware of and exploring things that may hinder your success. I am trauma-informed and feel that past experiences heavily impact how we navigate the world currently. Personal identity also plays a significant role in our lives and sometimes affects mental health. The client-therapist relationship is extremely important and it is my job to build trust, so you feel comfortable being completely open and honest in a non-judgmental session so positive change can occur.
I offer therapy that is client-centered, authentic, and affordable. Being a man of color, I view therapy a bit differently. Stress connected to race, oppression, and white supremacy are often overlooked and I aim to bring those issues into the room. I'm hopeful my lens will be beneficial to those who have not had success in traditional therapy.
My goal is that when you end with me, you'll be in a much better space than when we started. It's not about "what's wrong with you," but it's about exploring "what happened to you." Please contact me for a free consultation to make sure I'm the right therapist for you!

Marvin A Toliver's Groups

Trauma Group for Men of Color

This group is for Men of Color ages 18-40 to come together and be heard, understood, and safe being their authentic selves. Men of color navigate the world in a way only other men of color can truly understand. In this group, we'll discuss different things like trauma and the associated symptoms, our experiences, and various stresses of living in America as a man of color. We'll also discuss racism and oppressive systems that contribute to our mental health. This is an 8-week that will begin on August 28th 2019.
