Many of the clients I work with struggle with depression and anxiety, often (but not always) related to a history of trauma. I have found that many clients with a traumatic history have never identified it as such and, therefore, have never considered the long-term effects on their lives (their bodies, their emotions, their relationships). They've often tried (or have been told) to "get over it" or that something was wrong with them. In my experience, it's not about something being "wrong" with you. It's about what has happened to you.
I take a gentle approach to therapy. I do use interventions or suggest tools that I have found to be helpful. However, in my opinion (and in the opinion of many researchers) the effectiveness of any intervention is dependent on the quality of the therapeutic relationship and I make that relationship a priority.
Therapy can be uncomfortable and sometimes scary, especially if you've had negative experiences with therapy in the past or if it's your first time. I have found that my approach helps people feel more comfortable. You deserve to feel better. You deserve to heal. If that sounds good to you, please contact me!
