I am a marriage and family specialist, with Gottman level 2 certification.
Relationships can be our deepest source of pain and have the potential to provide a powerful source for healing brokenness. Couples and families can build better tools to effectively communicate, understand and resolve long term frustrations. We can work together to identify and apply solutions, finding ways to overcome obstacles to achieve more of what you want. Individuals struggling with depression and/or anxiety can discover ways to experience more hope and freedom from symptoms.

I am in this line of work because I firmly believe in the incredible strength of the human spirit and our ability to create desired change. My M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy afforded an elevated perspective of the human condition through the lens of larger influential systems. This framework shifted psychotherapy away from exclusively looking at the individual to looking at the family and other significant relationships to understand the context of a client's struggle as well as their potential for healing.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an efficient and research-based protocol for helping couples recover from crisis, develop a deep soul connection, or to start with an excellent system for navigating a new relationship. EFT is my life's work. I take it very seriously and have committed my professional career to a high level of expertise and the ability to care deeply and authentically for the individuals and couples I work with. If you or your partner is struggling with any form of addiction that is not in recovery, I will refer you for additional support before starting or in addition to the work I offer.

I relocated to Spokane in 2018, earning an MA in Marriage & Family Counseling from Gonzaga.
As a therapist, I am committed to individual and collective healing, operating from the belief that people change in the presence of other people. This is what makes the therapeutic experience so transformative – the relational work of therapy provides a new context where, together with a safe other, you can seek to understand and unlearn old patterns that no longer serve you, while learning to navigate through your inner and outer world with more courage and comfort. I work to create shared experiences based in curiosity and safety, speaking to the parts of you and your story that may feel stuck or alone.

I would love to help you find healing & happiness within yourself, in your marriage, or with your family.
Thank you for considering me to be the person who will walk alongside you in your journey toward mental and emotional health. You have found yourself on my page because you need help. Life is not easy, and can be particularly cruel to many. From the moment we begin our lives we start to build a toolbox full of tools to help us cope and move through our experiences and relationships. Sometimes the tools that we have may no longer be serving us and may actually be hurting us. It can be so difficult to see which tools may be keeping us from the life we want without the help of an unbiased and non-judgmental outside perspective.

Your relationship problems did not start in your marriage or motherhood.
I believe every troubled relationship has a repetitive pattern with roots of this pattern caused by attachment wounds. My approach looks at how the role we played in our childhood, influences our current relationships, especially as a parent or spouse. I enjoy working with married couples who are experiencing conflict, especially while raising their children. I am also a certified perinatal therapist and enjoy supporting women in postpartum. Contact me if you want to live a more attuned and meaningful life and you want to see sustainable changes.

I am a Washington State designated as a Child Mental Health Specialist and a Registered Circle of Security Parent Educator. Over my years in practice, I have worked with families, couples, adolescents, and individuals. The goal of therapy is to help you understand yourself and others within a relationship. Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
