I received my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and my B.A. in Psychology from Hampton University with a minor in Children and Family studies. I am a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher and my approach is person-centered and strength based. I provide a holistic approach to the counseling journey through a combination of mindfulness and primarily CBT. Depending on the client - this is not a one size fits all deal - that's what makes life beautiful. We are all different and unique in our own ways. This counseling journey will be just that: beautiful, different, and unique.

I have been assisting people to overcome depression, anxiety and to repair relationships seemingly in free-fall for more than 40 years. Because there is no shortcut to peace and well-being, treatment is open-ended, tailored to each person's unique needs. Teletherapy by computer, tablet, and smartphone is available for individual, couple, and group treatment sessions. With COVID-19, Shelter-in-Place puts even more stress on relationships and employment. Alcohol, drug use, and porn addiction can make relationships even harder. I have much experience assisting addicts to achieve a more peaceful and productive life for self and family.

Hi and welcome, let me share a bit of my philosophy with you… After several different career choices, true to the vocational model, at thirty-something I discovered the field of psychotherapy. I began my career in accounting, moving into the medical field, then the business world and found my true passion in the study of human behavior. I may be one of a few therapists with physics and organic chemistry as electives ! Taking time for YOU is a quintessential part of experiencing happiness. Knowing who you are and loving it, is a big step in the right direction towards joyful living.

Making the first call is sometimes the hardest part of the therapeutic process. I commend you for your strength and courage in seeking help. One of the most important steps of pursuing counseling is finding a passionate, knowledgeable, and trusting therapist that you feel comfortable with. One that will sit with you through your difficult moments and help you to recognize or remind you of your strength. If a mood disorder is taking control of your life, I can help you to learn how to manage it. If you are experiencing challenges with your significant other(s) I can help you to improve the connection, understanding, and intimacy.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
