Michele brings an integrative perspective to her practice that considers the individual’s personal beliefs, cultural and societal influences, and the therapeutic relationship itself. She examines how identity, physical and spiritual health, sexual orientation, family of origin and past events influence one’s mental health. She believes strongly in the use of self-care techniques such as movement and meditation and thus, may teach breathing exercises or use guided meditations in session to help clients learn to alleviate stress. She utilizes various cognitive behavioral techniques (CBT) to challenge maladaptive schemas.

I get it, reaching out for help can feel intimidating and confusing. That is why I work to make people feel comfortable and accepted. I try to make the therapy process enjoyable with humor and affirmation. My approach is collaborative as I view therapy as a form of partnership. I have worked with both adults and children with a wide range of issues including, autism, anxiety, depression, trauma, anger management, ODD, ADHD, emotional regulation, grief, life transitions, and self esteem issues. I believe that people are more then their diagnosis and that our mistakes do not define us, but are opportunities for growth.

My ideal client is one who wants to building a collaborative relationship that will help to foster change. I believe that most of the work of therapy happens in between sessions, so my clients will benefit if they are willing to practice the things that we agree will be helpful. I am less focused on diagnoses than beliefs, feelings, and behaviors that are amenable to change. I am hoping that my clients have decided that they are willing to be vulnerable at this point in their lives and that they are open to having me participate in their journey toward a more effective life strategy.
