Life can be challenging and sometimes the weight of it all can seem heavy! As a dedicated Marriage and Family Therapist Associate, I am passionate about fostering positive transformations both individually and within relationships. With a client-driven approach, I believe in creating a safe and non-judgmental space where individuals, couples, and families can explore, understand, and strengthen their connections. Acknowledging the need for help and reaching out can be intimidating. My goal is to make this part of your journey as comfortable as possible.

I have worked with children and adolescents, ages 5 to 19. Many of them struggled with issues related to trauma (parents with addiction, an incarcerated parent, neglect and abuse). I have worked with adults on developmental issues in schools and churches. I believe people of all ages possess the power to change, especially when they are supported in a safe environment.

Today our complicated and fast-paced lives are full of pressures that challenge us in countless ways. "How can I find happiness in my marriage?", "How do I cope with...?", and "Why do I feel so out of control?" are some of the questions I hear from clients seeking to understand their life journey and questioning what they can do to reach their true potential - individually, as a couple, or as a family. Soul searching is rarely an easy path to take, yet wanting to achieve an emotionally healthy life is usually the motivator which begins the process.

In addition, she enjoys working with couples with pre-marital and marital counseling.
Working with people who are motivated to change their lives is a passion for Cynthia. She feels that it takes strength of character to notice that help is needed and take that first step towards a therapeutic counseling relationship. She uses a client centered approach with methods chosen based upon the needs of the client. Through therapy, people come to realize the root issues so that permanent transformation can take place. Cynthia has experience working with clients who suffer with depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, and relationship difficulties. She has worked extensively with children, adolescents and adults.

I enjoy the process of helping my clients, besides my vocation, it is my passion and I have been in the social work field for more than a decade. Through online therapy I have had the opportunity to help people both near and far from me. It's time that the fact of going to therapy stopped being stigmatized, so one of my goals is that the client feels comfortable during the process. Telling how we feel does not make us weak, on the contrary, it is the first and most important step to feel better, that is why at One Alkaline Life we have always focused on offering you the best to accompany you in your learning process.

Do you find yourself wishing for better days? Have you lost interest in the things that once brought you joy? Are your basic responsibilities weighing you down? Life doesn't have to be about exhaustion and overwhelm day in and day out. We can work together to improve your current circumstances. I love listening to my client's stories and helping them put the pieces together. At times we may mix conversation with psychoeducation in coping skills, mindfulness, and meditation. Bravely sharing your story in counseling allows you a rare opportunity to be heard without judgment. This is a priceless opportunity to process your experience.

I believe in people’s ability to achieve positive change or improve their lives whether in disposition, behavior, attitude, or perhaps to better understand and manage other, more complex life issues. In either case, I look forward to being a part of helping individuals, couples, families, and children in our community.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
