Hi, my name is Sarah Russell- I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Certified Trauma Professional and have extensive experience in Chronic Illness Counseling. As a relationship focused therapist, my primary goal is promoting the healthy social, emotional, and relational health of both adults and young children. Endorsed as an Infant Family Specialist, I have experience with supporting the healthy social/emotional development of children prenatally through age 5. As an infant and early childhood mental health(IECMH) professional, I have an understanding of family dynamics and relationship building at an individual & family level. As a marriage counselor, I share tools to help marriages thrive. With both populations, I use a strength-based, culturally sensitive and trauma informed approach.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and have worked in private practice in the Clemson area for over twenty years. My practice includes adults, adolescents, families, and couples. I work with a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, relationship issues, as well as matters related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Fundamental to this is my belief that we are all individuals who affect and are affected by our families, groups of which we are a part, and the larger society. The variety of techniques I employ are all in the service of empowering my clients as they work toward healing.

As humans we are all susceptible to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and degraded self care. We can all fall victims to relationship problems, grief and confusion navigating through life with its ever changing twists and turns. I work with teens and up, and I have extensive experience working with college students to help them find balance, motivation, and overcome their fears of "adulting." I use CBT, REBT and Reality Therapy. I believe it's not so much about negative experiences we have as it is about our ideas about these experiences. I teach how to reframe, set boundaries, and change how clients perceive situations to help reduce or remove negative emotions so they can live full and happy lives.
