Taking care of your mental health is one of the most compassionate things you can do. Expected, even positive life transitions tend to cause some level of stress and resistance. Those stressors can force us to operate in extreme ways causing experiences of fear or uncertainty, dissatisfaction in relationships, or an erratic relationship with food. Most clients I see are high achievers, perfectionists or people pleasers; To the average eye, they appear as though they have everything yet, they are struggling inside. These are people seeking change but are often fearful of what that will entail or where to start.

Therapy is a unique experience and I believe that we as humans are most balanced when we feel safe and understood, non-judgmentally. As a bilingual therapist (English and Spanish), I strive to ensure that clients are provided the space to effectively express themselves in a way that makes sense to them. I have experience working with children, teens, families, and couples who can be experiencing challenges with life transitions, anxiety, depression, stress, or simply would like a neutral person to talk to.

If you're reading this you've already taken the first step towards improving your mental health. Congratulations! Life can be overwhelming, I believe we all have a mental backpack we fill with the pebbles and rocks created by the stress and experiences in our lives. Eventually the straps fray, it gets heavy, and your back begins to ache. My goal is to help lighten the load!

Emotions can be overwhelming, confusing, and ultimately too much to sift through on our own. What do they all mean? What exactly am I feeling? Who can I turn to to help me navigate these feelings I have been sitting with for so long? This can feel so isolating and have us feeling like we do not deserve to reach out for the help we need. These big and confusing emotions we hold onto stop us from finding our true selves and unlocking our full potential. Leaning fully into who we are, feeling like we have more awareness of ourselves and the world around us, and growing to love the true person you are begins in this space.

You're slamming the alarm clock; it was another night of broken sleep. You're feeling drained and wishing for a moment of peace and happiness. You are constantly giving to others when you're running low and rarely have time for yourself. You feel pressures and stress piling up and weighing on your shoulders. You want to reach out for help but are scared of being vulnerable and driving people away. At night when you lay down to sleep, the thoughts are racing and the worries return. All that you want is understanding, support, and acceptance.

Most of us struggle with sadness, anger, and anxiety at some point in our lives. I have come to understand that for these feelings to heal, you need to have healthy, safe, secure relationships. You achieve this by healing your unresolved wounds and learning how to have good relationships, especially with yourself. Doing this involves implementing boundaries, knowing your needs and wants, emotional & physical self-care, communication skills, and learning how to regulate your emotions. I too have taken this journey which has brought incredible healing to my life. Healing should not be done alone, we all need support and guidance!

I get it. Life can be challenging with experiences that leave us feeling overwhelmed and filled with self-doubt. When someone is in this place where life feels hard, they need non-judgmental compassion, care, and consideration of their own needs. I feel therapy is a tool we can use to elevate our growth, empower ourselves, and a support to lean on. As a therapist with over a decade of experience, I specialize in anxiety and depression, relationship issues, self-esteem, relational trauma, and life transitions, specifically maternal mental health.

Who am I? What is important to me? What do I believe in? What do I want out of life? I know firsthand what it is like to face these questions, especially when rebuilding after disappointment, trauma, and loss. In my own experience and in my experience working with clients, I have found that the most difficult times of our lives can be the catalyst to our greatest growth, and eventually, a sense of peace we had not thought possible.

Everyone needs and deserves compassion, kindness, and to feel felt. This can be a challenge for many people. My intention is to help people heal with validation, support, and with no judgment. Our minds can be a very busy, exhausting, and intrusive place. I work with clients to help them feel empowered as they learn to manage their thoughts and emotions to feel more comfortable in their daily life.

In our fast-paced world, it is easy to become anxious, depressed, angry, and/or overwhelmed. If it feels unmanageable at times, that makes sense. Our brains weren’t designed to be flooded with so much information globally and in our personal lives with minimal support. Add in additional stressors such as trauma, challenging family dynamics, or parenting, and it can feel like a pressure cooker ready to explode. However, you are not alone. Therapy is a wonderful tool to help release pressure and learn ways to manage challenging emotions so that you can be your best self.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
