I am licensed in New York as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I hold an MFA in Creative Writing and have certifications in Transformational Life Coaching and Clinical Hypnotherapy.
Whatever feels “off” in your life—depression, unhealthy boundaries, a dead-end career, anxiety, loneliness, low self-esteem—is a symptom of a larger problem: an unbalanced and under-appreciated Self. Just like a fever lets us know we have an infection, life problems let us know something deep within us isn’t right. We don’t blame the fever, we thank it for alerting us to the bigger problem. Using life’s challenges as a guide, we work together to build the foundation of self you need in order to live an enriching and fully human life. This deep work benefits not only yourself but also your loved ones and the rest of our human family.

Society tries to put us into binary boxes every day, and I believe in living life in the space in between. Therapy is a place where we can shed the expectations of others and give space for our authentic selves. Together we will explore your past experiences in order to identify your intentions for what comes next. My therapeutic style is direct but stems from a place of non-judgmental empathy; so while you can rest assured that I will be here to help you navigate your self-exploration, you will need to be prepared to be in the driver’s seat.

Navigating this world as a marginalized individual is hard. As a neurodivergent, queer individual, I get it. I feel an intense desire to help those who feel marginalized or shut out by society begin to feel acknowledged and loved while they begin to understand how they can take up space in this world without being rejected. You are the expert on your own life, I am simply here to guide you along your journey. I am deeply passionate about how humans think, work, and view the world, and want to help you explore your curiosities and come to a better understanding of yourself.

I'm a trans nonbinary therapist who specializes in helping clients navigate OCD, anxiety, and sexual trauma (and often the intersection of all three). I help clients understand that anxiety is not actually an emotion, but a way of avoiding bigger, more unpleasant feelings bubbling beneath the surface. Much of my work consists of helping folks process their grief at the existential nightmare that is the world we live in. Using mind-body therapies like IFS and ERP, I teach clients how to get in touch with these Big Feelings without being swallowed by them.

I work from a trauma-focused, strengths-based somatic and relational perspective to help you release shame via self-compassion. I view even the coping mechanisms that make us feel the most stuck as examples of our bodies’ incredible resiliency & drive to keep us safe. Within the therapeutic dynamic, I seek to help you identify and unlearn harmful cultural conditioning and, with the courage of authenticity, uncover your own innate wisdom. To me, therapy is a place where we can explore creative self-expression and practice intentional relationship building in order to live more authentic, joyful, and embodied lives.

I work with families of all ages for family therapy. Why? A relationship in your family has been bothering you for quite some time. The resentment's been building for years. You're ready to work to untangle it. I will help you understand your part in the relationship dynamic and, if it makes sense, work with your family member to repair the hurt from the past and move forward.

Do you feel misunderstood or unaccepted? Does it feel impossible to be your true self and be happy? Living inauthentically can lead to pain and make it hard to live a fulfilling life. We live in a tough world that forces people to “fit in” to be accepted. Deep dissatisfaction, sadness, worry and low self-esteem often result from this pressure and can make it feel next to impossible to find a path to joy and fulfillment. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I empathize deeply with these experiences. The great news is change happens and you are on your way, having taken this first step to find a therapist.

The parts of ourselves that we struggle with are sometimes our greatest assets. Therapy can be a place to better realize our strengths and identify where long-term patterns of narratives and behaviors are no longer serving us. I am passionate about working with LGBTQ and POC on topics such as: gender/sexual identity, anxiety, depression, OCD, acculturation, racial identity, social skills, and relationships. My therapeutic approach incorporates both systemic and relational pieces. We do not exist in a vacuum. All of our experiences shape the person we are today.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
